I spent the weekend at the Supernatural L.A. Con. It was my first TV-based convention, and it was wild and so much fun.

I also spent all of Valentine's day on various planes, hanging out in airports, and then driving through a snowstorm in Vermont. I regret nothing. :)

It was great. I may now have to sell a kidney, but it was great.

They took away my internet at work.

WOE!

More specifically, they took away the stand-alone internet that I used to access LJ. My boss told me that I was specifically not to use LJ from my work station, because apparently it constitutes some kind of minimal security risk.

Fine. It's their show, and they pay me to work, so while I am sad, I will acquiesce without too much complaint. I'm just mildly peeved that other people are still apparently allowed to go onto their comics sites and car sites and sports sites, and that it's only LJ that's the supposed breach. All theoretical, for that matter.

Meh.

Anyway, that means that, for the most part, I won't be on LJ much when I'm working my night shifts. I usually come home, go to bed, and get up in time to eat and go to work again.

I missed some important news as a result, which suck. Congrats [livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse and [livejournal.com profile] chibipunkdemon! I am not surprised, but I am thrilled! Of course, now I have more knitting to do...

In other news, Supernatural is still eating my brain, but I'm spreading the joy. I got two other coworkers hooked on the show. Hah! I am now at six conversions and counting. Bwah!

Gotta run. Be good, everyone!

I'm back!

Schroedinger's Power Supply has made a comeback, after I put it in the corner to think about what it had done.

To celebrate, I give you a Supernatural clip with one of my favourite quotes, ever! It's got a teeny tiny mild spoiler for early Season 5, but nothing that will give away major plot lines or mytharc stuff. Basically it's pretty safe. It's only seventeen seconds long. You know you want to watch. :D

EAT IT, TWILIGHT!

\o/

(Yes, I learned that emoticon from the Supernatural fandom. I'm a lost cause.)

I think I need a new tag for this LJ. *adds it*

Woke up with a migraine due to some seriously fucked-up nightmares. At least this time the nightmares were back to my usual fare: I was kidnapped by some serial killer-type guy, along with my husband (don't ask), and kept at the top of a ridiculously tall high-rise. The serial killer guy (or whatever) decided he needed to move us, and tried to hustle us into the elevator, only I managed to escape and thought I'd be able to go down the emergency fire stairs. Of course, they turned out to be like the stairs in ALL of my dreams: scary fucked-up and straight out of Escher and STEEP, HOLY SHIT. I couldn't even start to go down them because I had to climb up over a ledge of some kind first and then I was too afraid to go careening down to the ground if I missed my footing. Vertigo. Bleh.

There were other, non-nightmare dreams. In one of them I dreamed that some stupid schmuck who was fixing the lights at the office accidentally-on-purpose dropped a really heavy light fixture right near me and it glanced off my head. If it had been a direct hit it would have caved in my skull (who thinks the headache was bleeding into my dream? Let's see a show of hands!), and I got really really mad at him. Douchebag. There was yelling.

Anyway, all this to say that I awoke and had to take a lot of painkillers. I'm okay now, though, which is odd.

In other news, SUPERNATURAL MARATHON THIS WEEKEND! Featuring me, [livejournal.com profile] guruwench, [livejournal.com profile] le_maistre_e and [livejournal.com profile] silly_imp. It is going to be awesome!

[livejournal.com profile] lassiterfics just summed up my relationship with the show perfectly:

"SPN is like that guy everyone tells me to stay away from because he's a total douchetard and I used to be like, "Yeah, I know, did you hear what he did to some girl?" BUT THEN, last month I was drunk at a party and kind of bereft because Merlin just dumped me, and then SPN was like, "Hey cutie, I've got some folklore and incest back at my place, you wanna come over?" and I was like, "Sure why not," 'cos SPN's kind of cute and I guess I could do with a one-night stand. But then SPN whipped out his apocalypse shit, and now suddenly I'm skipping classes and blowing off my friends to snort subtext and smoke religious mythos with him. AND HERE I AM, a broken woman. Sigh."

While I'm obsessing about Supernatural (yes, still obsessing, no, I don't see that changing anytime soon), here's another video.

Anyone on my flist who's into ghost hunting ought to get a kick out of it. I hope. :)

Supernatural has been renewed for a 6th season! WHEEE!

Yes, I know. Shut up and let me bask, okay? ;)

Also, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ash48 I now present this celebratory vid by [livejournal.com profile] deirdre_c: 2 Legit 2 Quit.

I know, I know. But it's really funny!
mousme: A view of a woman's legs from behind, wearing knee-high rainbow socks. The rest of the picture is black and white. (Overtime Fairy)
I spent Valentine's Day at work. The Overtime Fairy is a bit of a misnomer, but I miss using that icon. I got my shifts messed with considerably because of the Olympics, so my weekends are basically toast until April, which makes me very, very sad. I have exactly two weekends off until then. Woe!

Ironically, I haven't been watching the Olympics. I think I might still be a bit bitter that they took away my post in Vancouver for the event.

Otherwise, though, life proceeds apace. I'm still puttering along, doing my thing, cuddling the cats, going to work and back, still chronically single, nothing to report, really.

The past couple of new episodes of Supernatural broke me. In a happy squeeing fangirl kind of way. SO freaking painful, but just gorgeous anyway. As a result, I have been humming "Hey Jude" for the past ten days.

I've managed to get some knitting done recently, too. I'm behind on all my baby stuff, but whatever. I figure if I'm at a stage when just the thought of picking up knitting needles fills me with loathing, then I'm doing it for all the wrong reasons. I think that after the next (and last!) baby blanket, I will turn to the knitting of socks, and see if I can get excited about that.

I've been listening to The Doors when I bother to have music on at all. It's been that sort of month.
mousme: A view of a woman's legs from behind, wearing knee-high rainbow socks. The rest of the picture is black and white. (Sisyphus)
Okay, the title is a lie, but it's been a while since I updated with anything other than whining about the fact that my head hurt. So!

Life has been proceeding apace. While it seems it's a hard winter for everyone (media sources say 70% less sun than the national average this year! GAH!), the St. John's Wort is helping me get up and get out the door every day, and that's a Very Good Thing™.

The rest of my life is being taken up by work and going to the gym, occasionally seeing people (veeeery occasionally, alas), and generally keeping out of trouble.

Supernatural started up again on Thursday with a new episode, and there was much squeeing and bouncing until about the halfway mark of the episode, when it kind of turned a little "meh." Still, it was a pretty decent episode, just not earth-shattering and annoyingly didn't resolve anything at all (I was sort of hoping for progress on a meta level. Oh well. Maybe next time.)

Basically, I've come to the conclusion that I need to just roll with the whole low-energy thing this winter. If that's how it is, that's how it is. I am going to stop feeling as though I'm letting down the universe just because I'm not a whirlwind of sociability. Seriously, Phnee, the universe will survive just fine without you there to prop it up. :P

So I'm doing the bare minimum to keep functioning and keep myself in a good headspace. I get plenty of sleep, see friends when I can (all alone time and no friends makes Phnee go crazy!), and go to the gym. The gym is a two-fold blessing: 1) regular exercise helps keep me on an even keel, and 2) I am doing SUPER well. I can totally bench press 100lbs now, and I am SO PROUD!

The cats have been like VELCRO lately. I've had a bit of extra time off from work (long story, don't ask, and I'm totally paying for it in February), and when I'm home they glom onto me like alien face huggers. Especially Pan-Pan, who has been doing his level best to actually graft himself to my person. It's been a painful if very loving experience.

Yeah, that's about it. I've been reading e.e. cummings and fanfic, and am contemplating picking up the latest Harry Dresden novel sooner rather than later. It ought to be in paperback by now, if memory serves. Part of me is considering picking up a big juicy classic in February, too, if only for a change of pace away from genre fiction.

So, how's everyone been?
mousme: A view of a woman's legs from behind, wearing knee-high rainbow socks. The rest of the picture is black and white. (What You Cannot Dismiss)
Got myself an external hard drive as a belated birthday present, because my computer was making angry noises at me about how much space I'm taking up with my downloads. I got 30% off on it, too. Score!

Also, I am SAD and OBSESSED. I think I mentioned it. I've been watching the DVD commentaries of Supernatural. I NEVER watch DVD commentaries of anything. I think there may be something seriously wrong with me when it comes to this show. I really, really don't understand what my problem is, I've never done this with a TV show before.

I used to do this with books. I'd find an author/series I loved, read all of it in one gulp, and sometimes re-read them a few times within a few weeks. I haven't done it since I was in high school, though. Maybe CEGEP.

Oy.

Further to also, I'm now paying attention to lighting, camera angles, musical choices, and specific instances of body language. Thank goodness I have to go back to work, otherwise I might end up holed up like a crazy person with charts and diagrams on my wall, imagining that the TV is talking to me. Eesh.

Okay, it's not that bad. But still, I am confusing myself, here. What the hell, Phnee?

I love this song. It makes me SO HAPPY, and always has.

And a talented person made a fan-vid of "Supernatural" to it. It helps if you've seen the show, but it makes me grin like a stupid grinning thing.

"And I would walk 500 miles/ And I would walk 500 more/Just to be the man who walked 1,000 miles/To fall down at your door!"

Yes, I know, I am SAD and OBSESSED.

Don't judge me. :P

It's snowing out. Again.

I have been sitting on my sofa all day with George curled up next to me. Every so often he rolls over and demands that I rub his belly.

I'm re-watching "Supernatural," because I am just that obsessed. It's still making me giggle and cringe and worry about the characters. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of shows that have been able to do that for me a second time around ("The Pretender" is one of them, for the record).

In short: snowy day, purring cats, good TV.

Yeah, life is rough.

S.A.D. stuff behind the cut. The short version is: Phnee is taking St. John's Wort and things are better. )

So, yeah. Doing better. It's not exactly unicorns pissing rainbows and butterflies, but it's better.

Maybe later on I'll get around to posting the usual memes I do around this time of year, start making plans, which is what I always do around my birthday.

Good times.

Happy trails, all!

This cracks me up every time I see it.

The video has embedding disabled, so CLICKY!

For the record, it's Jensen Ackles lip-synching "Eye of the Tiger," and generally hamming it up for the camera.

I know. I'm doomed.

Spoilers for both Lost and Supernatural behind the cut! You've been warned! )

Sorry I haven't been around, folks. I have nothing to post except existential angst, and no one wants to read that.

I'm watching Season 3 of Heroes (yes, I finished Supernatural, did i mention I'm in full escape-from-reality mode? It's November, people!), and the following exchange just cracked me up:

Sylar: "[...] You may eventually come to forgive me. Maybe you'll even love me."

Claire: "I'll keep trying to kill you for the rest of my life."

Sylar: "Mm. Well, everybody needs a hobby."

It's probably a little wrong that Supernatural makes me laugh as hard as it does. I don't remember ever enjoying a cheesy WB/Fox show this much, not even Buffy. Maybe if Firefly hadn't been canceled...

Also, I am LOVING the meta episodes. Only the X-Files ever poked fun at itself with this much success.

*happy sigh*

I am watching the fourth season of Supernatural that arrived via Amazon today (yes, I caved and bought the DVDs). The fourth season is turning out pretty damned good, I must say. Better than I'd hoped for, which is nice.

So now I'm lying on the sofa with a fuzzy blanket and Gretzky and Pan-Pan lying on my legs. Smudge is on the back of the sofa, and George is on the prowl —alternately yowling at the window and coming over to demand cuddles.

Domestic bliss.

Unfortunately, Pan-Pan and Gretzky together weigh about 35lbs, which is totally cutting off the circulation to my legs.
mousme: A view of a woman's legs from behind, wearing knee-high rainbow socks. The rest of the picture is black and white. (Revelation)
I just recognized a pattern of behaviour. Why I didn't notice before is beyond me.

See, I always knew November kind of sucked for me. What I *didn't* see until today is that every November I go into survival hyperdrive, withdraw from humanity, and find something to obsess over. Every year it's something different. 2006 was the zombie novel, 2007 was the new job at the RCMP, and last year I read something like forty-three books (yes, I went back and checked) and spent all my free time (which wasn't much) with BorderCrossing. This year it appears to be watching Supernatural and reading fanfic. Yes, fanfic.

There's been a new thing every year. I was wondering why I wasn't "feeling" the same thing as in 2006 when I was writing about zombie, why this novel isn't coming together in my head, and now I understand why: the obsession is different this year.

It's too bad, but at least I get what's going on now.

I have not had enough sleep this week, but it is entirely my own fault. I should not be given access to DVDs unsupervised. :P

I came very close to buying Supernatural on DVD yesterday, but balked at the prices. The lowest price I came across was well over $50 per season, and the listed price is closer to $70, which I find pretty damned steep. So I am being patient (for variable definitions of "patient," anyway) and waiting for them to come one at a time through Zip. Also, I reminded myself that I'm not buying stuff other than groceries this month anyway. Yeah, I have a short attention span. ;)

I have just (sort of) discovered a really fun Canadian series called "Flashpoint," which is relatively unrealistic but fun. It's well-paced, well-written, and has a very, very Canadian feel to it, but is running on CBS as well as CTV, and I suspect that the high-ish level of violence is what got it onto American TV in the first place. I'm definitely enjoying it.

In other news (I use that expression a lot, don't I?), I don't know if it's something in the air, or what, but a lot of people on my flist are taking time to rethink what they're doing, try new projects, and generally do a psychic cleaning-of house, and my thoughts are turning in that direction as well. I have the beginnings of a Cunning Plan, which I'm hoping will let me get my act together in a more meaningful way. I've been adrift since early August, and it's time I pulled myself up by my bootstraps.

Oh, and I also finally remembered to update Midnight Crossroads, which I forgot to do on Monday. Oops.
mousme: A view of a woman's legs from behind, wearing knee-high rainbow socks. The rest of the picture is black and white. (Television)
Mission: Impossible is going to be out on DVD in its entirety in November!

Squee!

Also, I bit the bullet and signed up for Zip.ca, and so far I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the service. The DVDs come quickly, and so far only one has come "out of order" since I've put only TV series on my wishlist. It's an exercise in patience for me, since I like to do marathons of TV seasons, but watching them four at a time and then waiting a week or so for the next four episodes is working out pretty well thus far.

I rented "Tru Blood" from my FLVS, and while it was very different from what I expected, I thoroughly enjoyed it once I revised my expectations. I have to say that the show does unsexy sex scenes remarkably well. The writing was solid, and made me laugh and laugh.

I have been renting "Prison Break," but someone else in the neighbourhood had the same idea as I did, and so I am currently being thwarted by the fact that the second disc of season 2 is out and has been for days. So I'm going to have to wait a little while before I find out what happens next.

So tonight I have a choice between Criminal Minds, Supernatural, and Deadwood. All in all, I can't complain. :)
