Saturdays appear to be meme days. Memes are nice in that I don't have to spend forever thinking about what to write. ;)
From

Comment to this post, and I list five things I associate with you. They might make sense or they might be totally random — then post that list, with your commentary, to your lj (or just add a reply back at me). I and other people get our lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.
(These five things from
ladyiolanthe)Cops: Well, I work for the RCMP as a dispatcher, so that's not a heck of a surprise. I work with cops all day long, and one of the best-known police forces in the world, for that matter. I'm pretty proud of where I work, in spite of the fact that parts of it are b0rked and there's too much administration and the left hand never talks to the right hand. It's neat for me to think that my country is known for it's police force, because of how good they are, and not because of corruption or violence or something.
Bald: I'm not bald anymore, but I was for a while back in October, when I shaved my head in order to raise money for breast cancer research. Thanks to my friends and co-workers, we raised nearly $3,000! So thank you! :)
Tufitri: Tufitri was an NPC I played in
forthright's epic IRC roleplaying game,
Perseity. She was the spitting image of another PC's dead wife, and she was neurotic, insecure, and also happened to be pretty gorgeous. I had a lot of fun playing her, and was kind of sad that I always had to keep her in check because she was an NPC and not supposed to hog the spotlight. ;)
Avril Lavigne: This is another leftover from
Perseity. I kind of loosely based my own PC, Margot, on Avril Lavigne, and always had Avril playing in the backrgound whenever I was playing Margot, particularly "Don't Tell Me," and "Happy Ending." I never much liked Avril Lavigne before then, but she grew on me, and now I have happy roleplaying associations with her.
Guns: This one's a bit more random, since I don't talk about guns much. I like to think of myself as a rational gun control advocate. I used to be rabidly anti-gun, a position taken early on by my parents, but after spending some time with reasonable people who use guns in a way that is perfectly safe and law-abiding, I have come to a more moderate way of thinking. I think the CFRO (the Canadian gun registry) is a huge, clunky, money-wasting piece of crap. It's not useful for preventing gun-related violence except in a small portion of cases, and most of the cops with whom I work feel the same. I would LOVE it if there were a way to regulate firearms, but the way to regulate them is to regulate the *tool* and not the people. Getting an illegal firearm is pretty easy if you're a criminal who knows where to look.
(These five things from
elanya)Zombies: I have a thing for zombies. They are one of my favourite type of enemies in fiction, for the same reason that I love the Borg (before
Voyager ruined them forever): they are quasi-human, and they are
inexorable. Individually, a zombie isn't much of a threat. The threat comes from the fact that there are thousands, tens of thousands of them, and
they never stop coming. You can run, you can elude them for a while. Days, weeks, maybe even months or years. But you are human, they are not, and eventually you will slip up and they will get you. I wrote a zombie novel back in 2006, most of which is online.
Knitting: I am, in spite of doing this for years, still a novice knitter. I get enthused about a project and get all knitty for a while, and then I leave it alone for months. I like knitting: I can usually see progress in a very short span of time, which is all to the good for me. :)
RCMP: This has been discussed previously. :)
Quakers: Although I'm not officially a Quaker, and don't go to Meeting nearly as often as I should, this is the religion with which I've come to identify the most. Their ideals of simple living, of living each day as though it's sacred, of dealing honestly with everyone and everything, is exactly the way I strive to live my own life. If my schedule were more flexible and involved less overtime, I'd be at Meeting a lot more often.
Two Lumps: Two Lumps is one of my favourite webcomics ever. It's from the point of view of two cats who live with their "mom," and the wacky antics they get up to. It's not as funny as it used to be, but I still enjoy it. At one point, ALL my LJ icons were taken from that webcomic (it was a theme).
(These five things from
luvenditti)Friend: Lu and I have been friends for several years, though it sometimes feels like a lifetime. Often enough it seems weird to me that I
haven't known her forever, and that there are significant chunks of each other's lives that we've not experienced first-hand.
Drummer: I am the Drummer, I hit on everything. ;) Back in 2005, inspired by t! and
Invisible,
karine,
ai731,
toughlovemuse,
owldaughter and I formed an all-girl band of somewhat eclectic instruments (vocals, rhythm guitar, saxophone, cello, and drums, respectively). I have ALWAYS wanted to be
Bugs Potter, having always identified much more strongly with the "flute guys" of this world. This was my big chance and I took it, teaching myself the basics of playing the drums. Thus I confirmed that I do, indeed, rock like a rocking thing.
Invisible even wrote a song about it!
Wit: "True wit is nature to advantage dressed, what oft was thought but ne'er so well expressed." This is one of my favourite quotes, and is from Alexander Pope. I come from a family of intellectuals, where wit and having a quick mind and a glib tongue are highly prized. The same went for my school years: if you were sharp, people mostly left you alone. Thus I have a pretty finely-honed sense of irony, and if I'm not too upset (when I become completely incoherent) then I'm pretty good with comebacks and general snark.
Flapper: I assume this doesn't have anything to do with 1920's stylistic choices, and has everything to do with the fact that I have the slightly embarrassing tendency to flap my hands when I get excited. :D
Cool beans: Not sure where this comes from. I think maybe
luvenditti thinks I am cool beans, which is pretty awesome. :D
