7:00 musings
Dec. 29th, 2008 07:10 amI need to get the cat pans cleaned out before the garbage truck passes by in about 20 minutes. Can we tell how much I feel like doing that right now?
:::ETA:::
Never mind, I just went and did it. Took the proverbial bull by the horns, as it were. The cats will likely not thank me (they never do, the ingrates), but it needed doing.
I am cleaning up before
tcaptain gets here. It won't be perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but as long as it's relatively presentable I'll call it a win.
There was a bit of a mishap in the fridge that I hadn't noticed earlier. It turns out that if you thaw meat that has been wrapped in nothing but paper, it leaks blood and juices all over the place. Who knew? /sarcasm Yeah, so if I'd been paying more attention, I would have remembered that. So the kitchen is a bit of a mess, but luckily I was at least intelligent enough to stick the meat in a drawer in the fridge, so the disaster was contained.
I very quickly stuck the ground meat in a pan and cooked it (if I had bought potatoes yesterday the way I was supposed to, I could make cottage pie, but did I buy potatoes? Noooo.), and quickly whipped up a batch of stew with the cubed beef, which is now simmering in the crock pot.
tcaptain is due at 10:00, so that gives me a little under two and a half hours to shower, get dressed, put away my laundry, tidy the kitchen and bathroom, and generally have things organized for when he gets here. Yeesh. That's not nearly as much time as I would like. Oh well.
Off I go!

Dec. 29th, 2008 09:40 amSay you were meeting a new person, blind date, new friend, who knows, and you wanted them to have some idea of what kind of person you are, and who you are. But you can't actually tell them in so many words.
Instead, you have to give them a box, with a dozen things in it for them to look at/read/listen to/taste/whatever. What would you put in the box?"
You get a baker's dozen with me, as well. :)
1. a pair of rainbow knee-high socks
2. a pressed crimson and yellow maple leaf
3. a garnet
4. a ball of yarn, knitting needles and a crochet hook
5. a picture of all my cats
6. a picture of my parents reading to me from the "Rupert Treasury" when I was a child in our garden
7. a CD of Dvoràk's American Quartet
8. the complete Beatles collection
9. the original Star Wars trilogy
10. a CD of French stories on tape I used to listen to as a child (transferred to CD for preservation purposes)
11. writing paper and a pen
12. the Lord of the Rings trilogy (the books, not the movies)
13. a jar full of snow

Random Monday poll
Dec. 29th, 2008 09:57 amI was just thinking the other day that most of my friends (the ones who've read and enjoyed Harry Potter, that is) identify strongly with either Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. A couple have identified as Slytherins, and I think I might well be the only one who considers herself a Hufflepuff.
Then I realized that I always talk to the same people about this sort of thing, so I thought I would put the question more broadly to my flist, out of curiosity.
