There was a scheduling fluke at work, and it turns out that I have today off. Bonus!

I've done a load of laundry, cleaned the cat pans, washed the dishes, organized the counters in the kitchen, put away some books, all before the cleaning lady got here. Yes, I am one of those people who cleans before the cleaning lady comes. In my defense, I pay her to clean what's under the clutter, not the clutter itself. If I do prep work, then she gets to do the actual scrubbing, which saves me both time and exasperation (have I mentioned lately how much I hate washing floors?).

Bizarrely, if I were going to work today, I'd still be on time if I left now.

I am going to run errands. Sadly, it's also snowing, and they're saying that we should expect about 30cm of snow by this afternoon. Bleh. Still, I have to go pay off my credit card, so that I can then use it to buy plane tickets. Isn't that exciting? I'm excited. :)

Speaking of vacation and time off, I have unofficially received word that I will be allowed to take time off during WorldCon. Everyone all together now: WOOHOO! Now my nefarious plans for hosting a million people will be a lot less complicated. I am also going to have a post-con barbecue in the garden on Sunday afternoon, once all the hoopla is over. Details on that will be made public as they become available. :)

*does a Happy WorldCon Attendance Boogie*

Tonight is Hump Night at Hurley's, which is all to the good. I am looking forward to seeing friends, having alcohol, and eating pub food. Good times.

So [livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse introduced me to video games last night. She showed me a game called, I think, "Dragon Quest," and let me play it for a while. I think she was a little amused by many of my reactions.

1- Let me start out by saying that it was a great deal of fun to play. I am glad I don't own a gaming console or a computer powerful enough to play games, because you'd never see me again.

2- The game went counter to most of my upbringing. [livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse kept telling me to run places, and it made me twitch, because, well, running indoors is bad. So I kept trying to walk places, except that walking is more unwieldy than running thanks to the gaming console.

3- Apparently being a hero in this game entitles you to rummage through other people's stuff and break their things if necessary. You are encouraged to go into people's houses and public places, and just go through their stuff and take whatever you want. [livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse laughed very hard at me when I cringed and didn't want to do that. After all, the game NPCs are very understanding about the fact that you're the hero and can do whatever you want.

4- NPCs have extraordinarily short attention spans in this game. Mind you, since I've only played a few hours of WoW apart from this (I refuse to count the one time I tried playing Resident Evil and couldn't get my character to do anything except walk into a wall and get eaten by a zombie), I have no idea how much I should expect out of any given NPC anyway.

In conclusion, though, it was fun, and I'm looking forward to trying to get to the end of the story at some point. Or at the very least get to the end of my current quest. I've already died twice, once because I hit the wrong button. :P

Okay, now I'm *really* going to get breakfast, and then I have to get some writing done. I have 45,000 words to get written, or thereabouts, in the next two weeks. Wish me luck!

Carole Nelson Douglas must be beaten with her own book. How dare she write a cliffhanger right before I have to write my serial and get started on NaNoWriMo? I don't have time to read the next book today, but I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! AAAAAAUGH!

I have so much writing to get done today, it's not even funny. I still have about 1,000 words of BTP to get done for tonight's instalment, I want to get the write-up of the last Mutopia session done before NaNo starts, and I owe people responses to JPs for Bluebook.

Also, Hallowe'en preparations start at 1630 today. Aiee! At least the pumpkin carving went really well last night. In exactly two hours we had five pumpkins carved and all the seeds were washed and ready to be put in the oven. There was a batch already baking when I left.

Tonight is going to rock hardcore. Hallowe'en, then NaNo. w00t!

Okay, off to produce insane amounts of wordcount on *other* projects before tonight. Panic!
