Okay, folks. It's my birthday this Tuesday, but since I have to work (boo) I am postponing my birthday by one day.

This is an open invite. Anyone who wants to show up and have a drink at Hurley's is welcome. Bring friends!

Everyone's gone home, and the place feels very large and empty without people in it now. It's just me and the cats. I'm an introvert, yes, and I'm sure that if they'd stayed much longer I might feel differently, but right now it's kind of lonely.

So in order to combat this, I am off to Hurley's for a pint. I will see all the friends I haven't seen in weeks.

I had dinner with my supervisor and his wife yesterday, and had a lovely time. I went there in order to get lilacs for the garden (he has a bunch overgrowing his yard), and they are currently trying to find a foothold in my garden. We had a great time: he showed me his garden (gorgeous, though precious few vegetables), and the rest of his home, into which they've obviously poured a lot of love and time and care. They are fonder of little knick-knacks and tacky doo-dads than I am, including lots of little china figurines of cutesy gnomes and things, but on the whole it was a charming home. Dinner was delicious, and we had a lot of fun playing with their parakeet, Billy.

The patio furniture arrived this morning, and [livejournal.com profile] moonandtree helped me put together the table (with some assistance from George, naturally). If I have time tomorrow I'll put together the barbecue, and maybe eventually I'll actually get some tidying and cleaning done.

I have randomly developed a headache since about 16:00, which has been lurking in the back of my head and behind my right eye. I should probably medicate it, but I've been too lazy and distracted. I think it's a tiredness-related headache more than anything else. It's not a migraine, although it shows all the signs of being the precursor to one (the stabbing feeling behind the eye is a gimme)

In more pleasant news, I went to Hurley's tonight, where I spent several very happy hours with [livejournal.com profile] tcaptain and [livejournal.com profile] maya_banana chatting about their honeymoon and looking at photos. We were joined by [livejournal.com profile] miseri, who was unfortunately feeling a bit under the weather. On the whole, though, a good time was had by all.

I am now going to go crash. Stupid headache.

G'ight all. :)

I feel as though I haven't seen most of my friends in a dog's age.

Yesterday was pretty damned harrowing at work, work-load-wise. I arrived just in time for a fire drill. We evacuated the OCC across the street, where of course none of the back-up equipment worked and only one phone was functional (*cue frustrated screaming*), and moved back in about an hour and a half later. The phones went crazy all day, the lines ringing 5 to 10 at a time, with only four of us to answer them (and one of us was my n00b-in-training). Then toward the end of the day the crazy frequent-fliers began calling, which truly b0rked our afternoon because it always takes forever to get them off the line. I left in dire need of a drink.

I arrived at Hurley's at 18:30 to find most of the usual suspects gone. Luckily, [livejournal.com profile] miseri and [livejournal.com profile] sorceror showed up, followed shortly thereafter by Bruno-who-has-no-LJ-that-I-know-of, and we had a fun time geeking out over musicals, d&d (2nd, 3rd & 4th ed), L4D and countless other fun topics. Then we all turned into pumpkins at 20:30 and headed home, where I collapsed into bed.

This weekend I have to cram a whole bunch of things into a very short space of time. I want to plant new tomatoes in the garden (the Brandywines are officially toast, I am sad to report), and one of the side beds still needs excavating and planting. I want to get more herbs to plant, and there is a TON of weeding to be done. There are two patches of weeds in the garden that are currently rivalling the virgin rainforests of the Amazon, and I want to dig those up and replace them with lovely perennial flowers, or something. I also have plans for the minor gardening wasteland at the base of the cherry tree, which is happy and blossoming (the tree, that is). I am feeling guilty about the cherry tree, because I didn't get to spray it in time before it blossomed, so I fear it will develop that fungus it gets in the summer. I hope it'll be okay.

Then I have plans to get an outfit for [livejournal.com profile] tcaptain and [livejournal.com profile] maya_banana's wedding.

All this to say that I will have to really squish things into my schedule if I want to both see friends, get some sort of sleep, and make sure the garden is okay.

I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be getting my tax refund soon. Sooner would be much better than later, at this point. I'm not running on empty, but there are things that need to be paid off which would get paid off more quickly if I had it. *sigh* Money sucks when it's not flowing freely.

I think I had more to say, but I can't remember it right now. The latent headache I've had all week is really wrecking my ability to focus.

Aside from having a good time at Hurley's yesterday, I am feeling kind of down this morning. Nothing terrible, I'm just really freaking tired. It's the changing of seasons, plus the fact that I haven't been getting *quite* enough sleep, plus the fact that I'm now going to the gym two or three times a week, and my body hasn't really adjusted yet.

I got home just before 20:00 last night, and by 20:30 I was in bed and out like a light. I tried to do other things before going to bed, but my body decided it was having none of that nonsense and put me to sleep until 09:00 this morning. Right now I'm in slow motion. Haven't even had breakfast.

Next week is a week of night shift (seven days in a row! Whee!), and after that I actually get some time off. It's going to be busy, but at least I'll be busy with my own stuff and not with work.

The April Fool's joke went down very well. I have pictures, and will post them ASAP. We filled the supervisors' office with balloons. Much fun. :)

Hurley's was a blast yesterday. A million people were there, including a few I hadn't expected, like [livejournal.com profile] grimmwire, and some semi-surprises like [livejournal.com profile] silly_imp and her Man (he was a surprise: I hadn't seen him since the summer of 2006, since I had my housewarming barbecue), and [livejournal.com profile] le_maistre_e, who had made indeterminate noises about showing up.

There was Kielkenny, and scotch (though I abstained from the scotch, sadly), and good food, and MUCH giggling. We worked ourselves into hysterics a few times, discussing books and geekdom and corsets and many other topics that are really only funny if you're there. :D

It was a great time, and we all to a man crashed hard at about 20:00. I was home and in bed by about 22:00, and it was a bit of a struggle to get up this morning. In retrospect, that second beer was probably a bad plan, although it was reeeeally nice while I had it.

Today is another work day. I'm hoping it won't be as crazy as yesterday. I worked all through my lunch hour yesterday, which was not very much fun.

I am feeling the change in time, but not as keenly as my friends are, because my schedule is wacky anyway. This week I am "allowed" to get up after the sun is out, so it's not so bad. On days when I have to be up early, I'm up before the sun no matter what.

I am wearing a shirt that hasn't looked good on me since October, which pleases me. :D

All in all, in spite of being tired, I am in a good mood. Am going to the gym after work.

Oh, to the gang going to Hurley's on Wednesday: I will be there, but only starting at 18:30, as I'm working swing shift this week.

Back to work!

There was a scheduling fluke at work, and it turns out that I have today off. Bonus!

I've done a load of laundry, cleaned the cat pans, washed the dishes, organized the counters in the kitchen, put away some books, all before the cleaning lady got here. Yes, I am one of those people who cleans before the cleaning lady comes. In my defense, I pay her to clean what's under the clutter, not the clutter itself. If I do prep work, then she gets to do the actual scrubbing, which saves me both time and exasperation (have I mentioned lately how much I hate washing floors?).

Bizarrely, if I were going to work today, I'd still be on time if I left now.

I am going to run errands. Sadly, it's also snowing, and they're saying that we should expect about 30cm of snow by this afternoon. Bleh. Still, I have to go pay off my credit card, so that I can then use it to buy plane tickets. Isn't that exciting? I'm excited. :)

Speaking of vacation and time off, I have unofficially received word that I will be allowed to take time off during WorldCon. Everyone all together now: WOOHOO! Now my nefarious plans for hosting a million people will be a lot less complicated. I am also going to have a post-con barbecue in the garden on Sunday afternoon, once all the hoopla is over. Details on that will be made public as they become available. :)

*does a Happy WorldCon Attendance Boogie*

Tonight is Hump Night at Hurley's, which is all to the good. I am looking forward to seeing friends, having alcohol, and eating pub food. Good times.

Spent a long, long day at work yesterday (I did a day shift in the middle of the week, which is always kind of tough), then meandered around downtown, picked up some books, and went to join [livejournal.com profile] foi_nefaste and [livejournal.com profile] tcaptain with his fiancée at Hurley's. Two of [livejournal.com profile] foi_nefaste's friends were there as well, though if they have LJs I am unaware of them. [livejournal.com profile] tcaptain also had a colleague visiting from the U.S., but he beat a hasty retreat to his hotel early (I think we frightened him a bit).

Good times were had. Beer was drunk, games and books were discussed. I came home tipsy and happy, and showed [livejournal.com profile] tcaptain and his girlfriend around the place, and scored myself a copy of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, which I will likely listen to this weekend at some point. I introduced them to the cats, who acted very friendly, and George made an utter spectacle of himself by trying to prove just how agile and graceful he was. He balanced very nicely on the stair railing for a while, then tried to do it again by jumping up at a different spot —and toppled right over the rail and down several steps, where he proceeded to sit and groom himself, looking very dignified. "I totally meant to do that." He's fine, don't worry. ;)

I got a really nice phone call from [livejournal.com profile] bodhifox a little while after I'd turned in. Poor bodhi, I was a little sleepy and rather tipsy, so I don't know if I made any sense. My phone skills are only good at work. :) I have no idea what I said. Hopefully I didn't dream the whole thing, but since I recall his end of the conversation quite well (just not my answers) and don't remember anything that doesn't make sense by the cold light of day, then I think it was real.

Wednesday Nights At Hurley's seems like it's going to become a regular thing, which is nice. I won't be able to go every time, of course, due to work, but it'll be nice to drop in when I can.

I totally overslept this morning and missed the garbage pick-up. *sigh* Monday it is. I know well enough that I never make garbage pick-up in the morning unless I take out the garbage the night before. Why do I always fool myself into thinking I can wake up on time?

Okay, time to get ready. The Overtime Fairy is visiting for a couple of hours today.
