Okay, [livejournal.com profile] august_writing is here, and I am uninspired.

So, flist, any suggestions? Story ideas, heck, I might even try my hand at fanfic (I don't do it much, but that's because I don't usually feel comfortable in other people's sandboxes).

I will do drabbles, poetry, full-fledged fiction, anything. Just give me something to start with. :)

Thanks!

Day 61 of my resolution to post every day for a year. So far, so good. As long as no one expects actual content, I'm fine.

My work schedule is turning out a little better than I thought. I'm actually on day shift next week, and have the next two consecutive weekends off! *gasp* I don't actually remember the last time I had two weekends in a row to myself. I think it may have been in early June. Then I'm working evenings for five days, then nine days of night shift. Then I'm off for nearly two weeks! w00t!

This weekend, there will be cleaning. The place is... well, not a disaster, but certainly not tidy. Once it's clean(er), I will begin packing. I have boxes for that.

[livejournal.com profile] august_writing also starts tomorrow. Must remember to post challenges.

Pork recipe will go up when I get home: I don't have it with me.

Jan's August Writing Challenge: Write something every day in the month of August.

Sounds tough! What do I have to do?
Write. Something. Anything. Any length. Prose or poetry. Every day. For a month. And share it.

Sounds cool! How do I sign up?

Post either your writing, or a link to your writing to the community every day in August, starting on Wednesday, August 1st, 2008.

Sounds simple! Are there any other rules?
Nope. Well, not really. It has to be creative writing - prose or poetry, of any any length, on any subject. Stuff you would normally be writing anyway counts (so, for those who write serials, that counts) but stuff you write for your job doesn't. But it can be anything. Short fiction, short-short fiction, essays, character studies, stream-of-consciousness, writing exercises (I post a different writing exercise every day during the month of August for anyone who would like to use it), sections of a larger work you have in progress, etc. Anything at all, so long as it's a piece of writing that you did that day. It would also be really cool if you could read and comment on a couple of other posts every day.

Phnee here: because [livejournal.com profile] ai731 is moving at the very end of August, she has asked me to be one of two co-moderators for this year, exceptionally. The other moderator will be announced in due course, once it's confirmed. I am honoured and very excited to be taking up her mantle, however temporarily, and I can only hope to deliver the same energy and devotion as she has all these years.

So I hope that all the writers on my flist will join us once again (or for the first time) and flex their creative muscles this coming August!

I haven't been updating this thing properly lately. In fact, I haven't been doing much at all that involves the computer at home. Mostly, I've been too tired to do anything in the evening before going to bed other than read through the day's LJ entries, post something short and pithy about cleaning, and then collapse in a tired heap. I've been writing at work, so the August Writing challenge continues apace, even if I'm not posting the results every day.

Everything else has pretty much gone by the wayside.

cut for length )

So this is what's been going on in Phnee's world of late. As you can see, dear readers, you're not missing all that much. Mostly it's cleaning and cooking and cats, a little bit of writing, and a lot of seeing friends and generally being all sociable-like. Nothing earth-shattering, just domestic tranquility.

I have been reading LJ, as mentioned, but just haven't had the energy to comment on most entries. My apologies for that. Once I get used to the new schedule I've imposed on myself, I shall doubtless start commenting more.

Well, the migraine has subsided somewhat, thanks to lots of migraine candy and a tepid bath. Nothing got accomplished today. *sigh*

Pan-Pan, I have discovered, is terrified of thunderstorms. He hides under one of the chairs in the living room when the thunder crashes. Poor bunny. He came out and cuddled with me when I called to him, though. I don't know why I was surprised: Pan-Pan is the world's biggest chicken.

I am thus far all caught up on [livejournal.com profile] august_writing. That's all I can say for today.

Not fair!

This is just Phnee whining. Nothing to see here, move along.

I'm on vacation! I'm not supposed to get a migraine! Waaaah!

Thus far today the only position that has not resulted in my feeling completely awful has been horizontal. This sucks. I was supposed to get all my cleaning done today, and I can't even sit up. Bleah.

I'm going to go take another nap. Maybe that'll do it.

On the plus side, I'm at least able to read the stuff from [livejournal.com profile] august_writing in short bursts. With any luck I'll be able to post mine by tonight. It's Tuesday, so that means Beyond the Pale. I'm contemplating posting Conflation once a week during the challenge as well.

It's July 31st, so I'm not too late to be posting this announcement here. [livejournal.com profile] ai731 is running her August Writing Challenge again this year. I highly recommend it for all my writer friends out there: last year was a blast, and this year promises to be even better, as tons and tons of people have joined!

Here's what she wrote in her introductory post:

Last year's was a heck of a lot of fun for everyone who joined in, whether they managed to finish or not. I loved reading everyone else's stuff, and I learned a hell of a lot about my own writing. I'm really looking forward to seeing amazingly creative output again this year.

I don't recall giving permission for it to be February in less than 48 hours. Seriously. Who authorized this?

In theory, I was planning on writing a new instalment of Beyond the Pale every day in February. That's 28 instalments, since it's not a leap year.

In practice, I looked at my calendar and just about passed out. I have something scheduled every. single. day. in February, and it's not writing.

Those of you who are about to kick my ass for not keeping my Sundays free, cease and desist now: I have one free Sunday this month. Two of the three that are taken up are being taken up by my new dispatcher course. I figure this is worth the time I have set aside for me on Sundays. :)

So, what does this mean? It means that I shall do my utmost to live up to my original committment. It also means that, if I don't manage to write 28 instalments of my serial in that time, I won't beat myself up about it. I will write every day, and hopefully it'll come out to 28 instalments. If not, I'll take what I can get.

Beyond the Pale is back, for three more installments. There won't be anything new for a few days, unless inspiration strikes again. I'll be writing other things, that you can read either at [livejournal.com profile] secret_history or in [livejournal.com profile] august_writing.

Part 25.

Part 26.

Part 27.

No, seriously, any time this migraine decides it wants to live somewhere else, I'll be happy to help it pack its bags.

I thought I'd take a quick "nap" last night when I got home, the better to deal with the rest of the day. The "nap" ended at 6:30 this morning. Guess my body vetoed my earlier decision to get back up. The annoying part, of course, is having the pain still be there when I awoke. Bah. At least it's nowhere near as bad as yesterday.

I am once again behind on the serial. I think I'm going to stop worrying about it and write it as it comes, because I hit a wall of complete lack of inspiration about two days ago, and I don't want it to be total crap either. I shall write other things for a few days, and then come back to it. The world will not end if I catch up on it only in September, right?

Okay, I think that confirms that hypothesis. Other writing shall happen for a few days.

Four new installments are up for your entertainment! More tomorrow, if all goes well.

So, in order we have:

Part 21.

Part 22.

Part 23.

Part 24 (which is an interlude).

Happy Trails!

As usualy, comments are welcome.

I have to go to work. Then I'm volunteering. Tomorrow I have a million and one things to do to prepare for the RWP.

I am never, ever going to get a decent amount of sleep this week. Especially not while I'm still trying to produce something for [livejournal.com profile] august_writing every day.

I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to get any writing done while camping. I don't think I have enough time to produce an actual backlog before leaving this week. There just aren't enough hours in the day, at least if I want to get any kind of sleep this week, which already won't be enough (see above).

It wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't spent the last weekend exhausting myself in the name of line dancing. It was fun and oh so worth it, but now I have to pay the piper. I'm going to be a mess next week.

I don't even have time to update about my weekend, which rocked like a rocking thing (and I should know).

Okay. Off to work. I'll see if I can scrounge up some time over my breaks or something. Maybe I'll get lucky and get through more than half of my next chapter of Beyond the Pale before I get home tonight. That would rock.
