Who knew filing cabinets were that heavy?

Got myself a new filing cabinet last night. Good times. Well, I got it in the afternoon at Bureau en Gros, where the nice man put it in my car for me.
Getting it home proved more problematic. For one thing, the man wedged it into the trunk of my car, which is quite deep but not very wide. Yeah. So I spent about ten minutes or so (in the rain) yanking futilely at the thing, which was at a very awkward angle indeed. Needless to say, none of the passers-by who paused to gawk at me offered to help. I managed, by twisting and pulling, to get it out of the car and onto the street.
Of course, because it was late at night, raining, and I had something heavy to negotiate, there was no parking on the side of the street closest to my apartment. So I wrestled the thing across the street, mostly by pivoting it on itself, since I couldn't lift it for very long.
The stairs posed a new problem. I eventually solved this difficulty by flipping the box end over end up the stairs, which, if you can credit it, turned out to be easier than moving it across the street.
Still, I now have a filing cabinet in my living room. Later today I shall unwrap it and put my papers in it. Exciting, no?
