It's Christmastime, and that means the stores are stocking eggnog again. This makes me a happy camper. I love eggnog. I love Christmas, actually. Every aspect of Christmas, except maybe the rampant commercialism. Even that I can mostly tune out. I like seeing all the pretty lights come out, and I enjoy the cheesy Christmas carols playing tinnily over loudspeakers in the street.

I love the cold air, I love the snow. I love putting up Christmas trees and decorations and lights, and watching little children get excited about Santa Claus. I like trying to figure out what kind of presents to give to my parents and to the few members of my family to whom I give presents every year. Even if my brain chemistry hates this time of year, I really like it.

Did I mention I really love Christmas? :)

I am in the process of cleaning this place, which I have mostly neglected since... well, far too long. It's not nearly as bad as it was this summer, but it's not good either. So instead of killing myself to clean the way I did this summer, I'm going at it a little bit at a time.

Tomorrow morning I will be washing the dining room floor.

I spent part of Saturday afternoon cleaning up the kitchen. It is now spotless and sparkling, except for the floor, which I will wash at the same time as the dining room floor, seeing as how they're essentially the same floor. I am very proud of my kitchen. It's very, very clean, and all the dishes are done.

Once the dining room is clean, I will spend the rest of the week putting the living room in order. The week after that will be devoted to my bedroom. It probably won't take me all that time, but I'm giving myself some wriggle room.

Did I mention I have eggnog?

I am a very, very happy camper right now, although I am quite tired.

I figure I ought to know by the end of the week if [livejournal.com profile] miseri has managed to infect me with his chicken pox. I rather hope not, as it would put a serious damper on my Christmas and work plans.

it's great to read...

Aren't vaccines only effective if you haven't been exposed?

How are you feeling? Better, I hope?

"People with chickenpox can spread the virus to others from up to five days before the rash appears and until five days after the rash appears. They are most contagious from the day before and for the first few days after the rash appears. To help reduce the spread of chickenpox, children with the illness should be kept away from daycare or school until five days after the rash first appears. It usually takes two to three weeks from the time there is contact with the virus until a person gets sick. If your child is exposed to chickenpox, watch for signs of the illness for the next two to three weeks."

"Prevention methods may include a medication called Acyclovir, an injection of Varicella Zoster Immune Globulin (VZIG) or the varicella vaccine. The VZIG shot may prevent chickenpox, if given within 96 hours after being near a person who has chickenpox. VZIG is available for certain people at higher risk of complications, such as pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems and some newborn infants. Acyclovir is available for other groups of people that are at high risk of complications of the illness. In addition to pregnant women, newborn babies, and people with certain immune system problems, Acyclovir may be used for people over 13 years of age, children over one year of age with chronic skin or lung disorders, and children on chronic aspirin treatment. This medication must be prescribed by a doctor and given within the first 24 hours after the rash starts. Acyclovir is not recommended for healthy children who get chickenpox.

Healthy people who have not been vaccinated and have not had chickenpox, but get exposed to the chickenpox virus can lessen the severity of the illness by getting vaccinated within the first 3 to 5 days after their first exposure."

(from here, if you wish more information. Short answer, I think it's probably too late, if you were exposed a week ago.

Yer welcome. On the plus side, I believe it's highly unlikely that you would have caught it - didn't [livejournal.com profile] miseri's rash not appear until Saturday night? So if the last time you saw him was the previous Sunday, he was *probably* not infectious then, or at least not very.

Yeah, that's what I figure too. Still, better safe than sorry.

Fever broke last night, so I'm feeling much more alert today. At the moment, I'm not as itchy as I thought I would be; there's a slight stinging sensation from the very first spot that appeared, which I wasn't aware of until I accidentally ripped it off while showering on ... Wednesday, I think. So, uh, I guess the first sign of rash showed up on Wednesday, though it wasn't until Friday afternoon/evening that it started showing up in earnest.

Expecting it to all go downhill from here, though.

So hoping you don't have the pox!!

So loving that you love the Nog. . . it really is a scrumptious beverage, all the more so because it's only sold at one time of the year. (I sometimes like to add a little milk to it to dilute it just a tad. But I don't really like mixing any sort of alcohol with it, because that's just tampering with perfection!) I used to drink the stuff until I made myself practically sick. I hope I am over that sort of full-fledged addiction, now. (Ask me in a few weeks how that worked out.)

Hey sweets~!

Good luck with the cleaning. I usually do my deep cleaning this time of year and send Evan running for the Hills. The people at Goodwill know me by name. , lol.

Anywhoo, I'm hoping for a NO with chickenpox because as an adult...ick..
