Back in the ranks of the employed
Jun. 14th, 2004 05:36 pmI got the job.
Had a highly stressful time getting there. The directions were unclear, and there was construction EVERYWHERE. I was fifteen minutes late. Way to make a good first impression. :P Apparently that wasn't too much of an issue, but I felt like a total doofus, because I got lost four times getting there due to circumstances not of my own doing (I left an hour early to get there on time, dagnabbit!).
I'm highly overqualified for this, and the supervisor who interviewed me is very nervous about employing me. He thinks I'll leave the minute something better comes along, and I must admit he might be right. He wants someone for the long haul, and I can't say that my ambition in life is to stay in that office and be the assistant to the girl who answers phones and enter data into the computer.
However, I did my best to allay his fears and told him that I was looking for stability, something long-term and certain, which is entirely true. We got along very well, and he told me that his impression of me was very good.
Basically, he's hired me on a trial basis. I start tomorrow at 8am.
The down side? My job will normally be from 10:30 to 7:30, which will mean bad things for my social life, such as it is. I will figure that out as time goes by.
Right now I'm starting earlier because the person I'm assisting and who will be training me starts earlier (she starts at 7:30 O_O).
So, yes. Thank you to everyone who wished me luck and sent me good vibes. I now have a job. Yay!

Date: 2004-06-14 02:38 pm (UTC)And don't worry about Perseity stuff, at least... if you need to show up late to Thursday games, we can definitely work around that. God knows lots of other players have more difficult schedules than you! And Sunday should still be no problem, right? :)

Date: 2004-06-15 07:19 am (UTC)Y'know, that problem just might go away if everyone would vote Conservative... ^_^

Date: 2004-06-14 03:28 pm (UTC)And in any case, ending work at 7:30 isn't so bad in terms of having a social life -- you can stay out longer, too, since you have to get to work only by 10:30 in the morning. :)
That's great news, Phnee! I'm happy for you :)

Date: 2004-06-14 03:40 pm (UTC)I'm happy for me too.
I'd be a little happier if the guy hadn't rambled on for fifteen minutes about how desperate they were for someone and how they'd looked everywhere for someone for the position and then looked apologetically at me and tried to backpedal, saying that of course it wasn't like I was a last resort or anything but... ^^;
Nonetheless, it is a paying job, and I start tomorrow. *does a Happy Salary Dance*

Date: 2004-06-15 03:34 am (UTC)Seriously, though, don't worry about the shift thing crimping your social life beyond the first few months, though. I've usually got to work around something similar, and if I can do it... :)

Date: 2004-06-15 09:15 am (UTC)Let's see... 10:30 to 7:30... 9 hour day, 45 hour work week... that sounds about standard. You should have plenty of time to do stuff.

Date: 2004-06-15 08:26 pm (UTC)I don't mind that much, but it is a bit of a downer.

Date: 2004-06-16 07:02 am (UTC)Unless you don't take well to weird hours or shifted sleep patterns.

Date: 2004-06-16 02:48 pm (UTC)Besides, I'm theoretically supposed to keep reasonably regular hours/sleep patterns.

Date: 2004-06-16 04:31 pm (UTC)Although, that would kind of throw a monkey wrench into things.
