I called in sick to work yesterday. Best decision of my life. Got caught up on sleep, whereas I had woken up every hour on the hour during the night.

Around 6:30 thought to myself "bugger this" and called in sick.

Cuddled with cats until 1pm. Dragged self out of bed and posted to Reparo.

Kicked self out of house to go see [livejournal.com profile] joane and [livejournal.com profile] shenlo and their friend (now my friend too ^_^) [livejournal.com profile] karine for our irregularly-timed FVLMINATA game. It's still a lot of fun. Am highly amused at playing a luscious but v. stupid Egyptian whore. *g*

The game got underway a little late, as poor shenlo and karine were kept late at work (one of those lovely situations in which your boss comes and hands you work saying: "we should have given this to you two weeks ago but we weren't ready, but you still have to finish it by tomorrow." Joy.) Had a blast nonetheless, and had added bonus of massively molesting Wumpus the cat. He's a woobie, in case I hadn't mentioned it before. Razor-sharp-toothed woobie, but woobie nonetheless.

I broke my eyeglasses, which sucks. I was innocently cleaning them when they inconveniently snapped in half. Stupid glasses. They're great because they're lightweight and unnoticeable, but they also appear to break a lot more easily than regular glasses. OTOH, my cats have been chewing on them fairly regularly for the past few months. Maybe that had something to do with it. >_<

Am considering investing in contact lenses. Must find out where friends get theirs. They seems to be a lot more convenient than constantly having to wipe fingerprints and gunk off my lenses.

So far am not quite as fed up with work as I thought. Then again, I've only been here for two hours (online, that is). I'll check again with myself in five hours and see if I hate it any more (or less). Turns out I have the night schedule for the next six weeks. Yay. Rah rah rah. That means I'll either have to miss all my games or scramble to get swaps at work. Unless I'm suspended for those days (don't hold your breath).

On the bright side of things, my application for a week's vacation was approved for the last week of January. Yay! So maybe I can figure out something then.

I really wish the goddamned supervisor would answer.

...

:::30 minutes later:::

All things considered, I hate this job.

Met up with my supervisors, who told me that my situation is "critical." That means that the next screw-up means I'm fired. They're also going to be monitoring the times I go on break down to the minute. If I'm late going on or coming off a break, that means I'm fired.

They also cancelled my vacation for the 27th of January, because one of my suspensions is taking place that week, so now I'm not allowed to take a vacation until the first week of March.

*cries*

Poor you

Are there no rules and regulations - I mean national ones? In UK we have very strict laws regarding how companies treat employees under working practices.

Bascially it is strongly weighed in favour of the worker so that if bosses do things that are unfair the employee can take them to 'Industrial Tribunal'. I guess it is one of the side-effects of having been socialist country (workers rights taken very seriously) for so long but it is something to be grateful for.

*shouts unladylike things at LJ for eating her comment*

As I was saying, what they're doing is perfectly legal. The workers at my company are not (nor will we ever be) unionised. In return for doing a crap job no one really wants to do, they pay us reasonably well and give us benefits.

They then hang unemployment over our heads like the fucking bloody great sword of Damocles and pretend it's for our own good.

Bah.

Good pay + benfits are a positive thing but having Sword of Damocles not good.

We are not unionized either, only certain industries have that. However, the regulations are enforced across the board to all, so such activities would be operating outside employment law. Indeed even having a 'Sword of Damocles' situation could bring an employer under scrutiny from watchdog organizations.

Regardless of whether it's legal or not, it's shite like that that makes people quit their jobs. I'm not going to tell you what to do, but I will say that I'm sure you could find another job that wouldn't treat you like a brain-damaged monkey without much difficulty. You have a degree, are perfectly bilingual, and are willing to work. That's usually more than enough. I'd suggest ditching the car and looking for a job you can get to by metro if you decide to quit.

Yup.

Am just not sure how to go about ditching said vehicle.

Will be looking into it during my days of penance -I mean suspension.
