The Shindig combined with a couple more nights of getting to bed much later than I'm used to has in fact allowed me to get on a sleep schedule that may enable me to not be totally wrecked by being on night shift this week. Maybe only slightly wrecked.

I got up at 10:30 this morning, which put me in mind of my teenage years when I could easily sleep until 13:00 on some Saturdays, much to my parents' consternation. I grew out of that pretty quickly, but for a while there I stopped being a morning person.

I'm back to being a morning person now, except that my work schedule isn't really friendly to any kind of sleep pattern. Even the day shift starts a little too early for my own comfort. Working evenings suits my sleep schedule just fine, but mangles my social life. It's a hard, hard life I lead, lemme tell ya. ;)

Today I have some cleaning to do, and some organizing, and then it's off to work for the next seven days. Whee!

The doorbell rang.

Because I sleep in the basement and it's always impossible to tell what time it is, I confusedly thought that maybe I'd overslept and it was the postman bringing me my long-awaited books. I stumbled upstairs, and ascertained that no, it was still dark out.

I switched on the porch light and looked out the window, to see a man standing in the street. At least he hadn't waited right outside my door, which would have guaranteed that I wouldn't open up. I unlocked the main door, then unlatched the outer door, and we had the following exchange.

Strange Man: "Is this the house of Mr. Lagarde?"

Me: "No, sorry."

Strange Man: "You're sure?"

Me: "Yes. You have the wrong house."

Strange Man: "Well, where is his house?"

Me: *glancing at my watch* "Sir, it's 01:00. I'm going back to bed."

Strange Man: *insisting* "But which house is his?"

Me: "Look, I don't know him."

Strange Man: "But he said he lived on Hamilton! He's the master electrician!"

Me: "I still don't know him. Hamilton is a long street. I can't help you."

Strange Man: "But he said it was right near the pre-school!" [let it be noted for the record that there is no preschool near me that I know of]

Me: *shrugging* "I still can't help you. Good night."

Strange Man: "Oh. Sorry for waking you!"

Me: "Goodbye." *shuts door and goes back to bed*

I mean, seriously. What person in their right mind randomly rings a doorbell at 01:00 in the morning looking for a master electrician?

I'm not doing too badly with my list, 6 months down the line. There have been major modifications to the list since I first came up with it, to reflect my own changing interests, but no modifications made recently. The idea is not to "cheat" but simply to come up with things that I want to do and that will be challenging and enable me to expand my horizons.

So far most of the stuff is still "in progress." The most notable achievement so far has been posting at least once every day to LJ, in spite of computer breakdowns and international trips. I'm pretty pleased with myself for managing that, given that my posting habits had become pretty sporadic over the past couple of years.

It amazes me that it's already been six months. I can't believe how quickly the time has gone by.

I have to look into some of the things I want to try. Six months down, roughly two years to go, and those things aren't going to do themselves, you know.
