*wibbles quietly in a corner*
I have a headache.
I also have three potential jobs, which is good. Well, one is a mini-contract, which might turn into a longer-term kind of translation thing which still wouldn't be enough to pay the bills but would be a nice thing to round off the end of the month.
That's not bad.
The other is Chapters, which is also not bad. Not great, because it's minimum wage, but at least I get a discount on books, and hey, a job is a job and it's better than not having any money at all.
The third is a job offer out of the blue from Industrielle Alliance, who refuse to tell me exactly what it is. They saw my CV on monster.ca and are giving me an interview on Monday. They want me to be a "financial counsellor," whatever that is. I think they want me to sell insurance. The woman spoke like a machine gun and wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise, and kept telling me what a fabulous job it was. The fact that my CV is a translator's CV and that she said nothing about translation worries me. She was aggressively recruiting me, so it tells me that they want me to sell stuff.
I don't want to sell things over the phone. I don't want to sell things period. :P
Oh well. I'll go to the interview and see what happens.
In other news, I have cleaned my apartment from top to bottom. I still have to tidy up part of the living room, but that's cosmetic rather than an actual cleaning job. I have to get rid of papers and shift books around and stuff.
I think I can safely say that my apartment has not been this clean since the first tenants moved in. I've gone through several bottles of cleaning products, and the place is actually sparkling. Really. It twinkles at me when I go by. I redid parts of the bathroom, shifted furniture, and arranged it so that
lux80 will have lots of places to put her stuff when she moves in. I'm very excited. :)
I figured out on Friday that I won't be able to put her in the spare room, because it's far too small. A single bed wouldn't fit into that room, and I think she might have a double or even a queen-sized bed. So I'm going to give her my room (she needs to be kept away from the cats at night because she's mildly allergic) on which we're going to put a door, and I'm going to convert part of the living room into a bedroom for me. It'll work out quite nicely, I think. My apartment is more than big enough to accommodate that, and the layout of the place actually makes it pretty convenient, too.
It does mean that I'll have to shift a lot of furniture in the next few weeks, but that's not the end of the world. My bed has wheels on it, and there's only one other piece of heavy furniture otherwise, which isn't even all that heavy. So it should work out quite well.
I can't type today. My fingers aren't doing what I want them to do.
Poor
lux80 and Prospero's Daughter have each apparently came home from their vacation to disaster.
lux80's roommate left in a hurry and chucked a bunch of stuff in her room, which she's not thrilled about, and Prospero's Daughter's student/roommate *also* left without warning while they were away. She claimed the rent was too high and found herself another place, which has left Prospero's Daughter in a very tight spot.
I am highly unimpressed by this, I must say. Prospero's Daughter has killed herself all year to make that girl feel at home, to find food that she would eat, has worried about her health, has been her friend and her refuge, and now she drops her without a second thought, while she was away on holiday. That's pretty damned callous. Not to mention that Prospero's Daughter needs the money, and she would have given the girl a deal if she had come to her with the problem before.
*grr*
*kicks nearby wall*
I have to take a shower or something. I'm twitching as though I were palsied. This is not fun.
