I missed my LiveJournal's anniversary.

So my LJ is now two years and, umm, *counts* twelve days old.

I kind of suck at this anniversary thing.

If I ever get a girlfriend, I hope she's understanding about this sort of thing, because I'll very likely forget three out of four birthdays, anniversaries, and very likely most secular holidays, too. The only reason I remember Christmas and New Year's is because people make a huge fuss about them. :P

I have a brain like a punctured sieve.

If things aren't written on the walls, I forget them.

*shrug*

Then again, writing in my LiveJournal hasn't been all that much of a priority lately. *checks* I don't even have an entry for February 24th. It's not that I'm not reading it every day, I'm just not writing.

I don't have the words to express myself anymore.

The good news is that my mother very likely won't need eye surgery.

She's been having problems with her eyesight since last May, and it took her a long time to actually go see a doctor. Doesn't help that it took months to get an appointment. :P

Anyway, they were afraid one of her retinas was detached, which would need laser surgery. Turns out it's only partially detached, which is apparently good news. It'll reattach itself if she's careful.

The rest of the news is not as good. She has glaucoma in both eyes, which we pretty much knew. Both her parents had it, and there's not much to be done about that.

They're waiting for the results of some other tests, but she described some of the symptoms to me that she's been experiencing in one eye, and even though I'm not remotely close to being even a little bit competent in the field, I did a lot of research a few years ago into eye disease (I wanted to write a short story about someone progressively going blind), and it sounds like macular degeneration in that eye. From what the doctor says, it sounds like he agrees but doesn't want to confirm or deny anything until he gets the test results back.

Which is good.

After all, there's no sense in hitting the panic button until it's absolutely necessary.

But there's a part of me that's still hitting the panic button anyway. My mother turned sixty years old on Thursday. Blindness was not part of the deal. Yes, I know we don't know for sure. And yes, I know that even if it is that, she won't be blind for a few years yet. And yes, I know that it's just another obstacle that, if it presents itself, we'll work around, and it's only in one eye, but still...

I'm not ready for my parents to be old.
