mousme: A view of a woman's legs from behind, wearing knee-high rainbow socks. The rest of the picture is black and white. (Whee!)
Pride was fun. I'd never been before, so going with [livejournal.com profile] joane was a fun experience and a big ol' eye-opener. I had no idea there were so many different gay groups around Montreal.

I saw a few people in the parade that I knew from a while back (and whom I know now). Some of them just didn't see me in the crowd and others didn't recognise me, because we hadn't seen each other in a few years, and my hair is no longer two feet long.

So we stood in the sweltering heat for two hours and felt very sorry for the people in the parade wearing the very very hot-looking costumes. The drag queens looked very extravagant and fabulous, as usual, there was more leather than you could shake a stick at (I want a leather kilt, now, dammit!), and all sorts of fun floats. Some better than others, obviously, but everyone put in an effort, which was gratifying. (Even the Raelians were there, but the less said about them, the better ^^;)

There was a very enthusiastic woman dressed in a grey t-shirt next to us in the parade, who just about made it worthwhile by her presence alone. She kept dashing out into the parade to get stickers and shoot photos, and she even brought us back some stickers, which was really nice. She was super excited about the whole thing. :)

We eventually had to dash across the street to some shade, though, because [livejournal.com profile] joane was looking increasingly flushed, and I wasn't exactly cool as a cucumber either. :P So we stood next to a man with a little girl on his shoulders and just behind another man in a kilt-like skirt and leather underbust, which was quite colourful all in all. Behind us was an older couple (man and woman) with two Great Danes, one of which would qualify as a small pony, I'm quite sure. :D

We hopped aboard the metro to get to the other end of the parade (we were watching near the start), and ended up at a McDonald's on Ste. Catherine to snatch a bite to eat before we both collapsed from hypoglycemia, and then went off to join the street party.

We were looking for a Jewish group that we'd spotted in the Parade, who called themselves Faygeleh (hope I spelled that right), and right at the end we spotted one of them (I recognised him from the parade) so [livejournal.com profile] joane got to get some info. Oh, [livejournal.com profile] joane? I've looked for faygeleh.org and I keep getting error messages, not to mention that Google isn't coming up with anything either. You may have to try the phone book.

Anyhoo, we also looked in a few of the leather stores (*drool*), where I found to my dismay that a leather kilt costs over $300 (yes, I know that makes sense, but still: ouch). I got some ice cream, and then we went back to [livejournal.com profile] joane's place to watch Sailor Moon.

I ended up being invited to dinner along with [livejournal.com profile] shenlo and [livejournal.com profile] joane's mother and brother. Now, I will continue unashamedly to complain about my parents here in my LJ, because they drive me nuts. However, whatever I may say about them, [livejournal.com profile] joane's mother wins, hands down. There was an argument over something that, in my mind, joane's mum should have found so minor that it would never have been a problem, and instead she turned it into a psychodrama the likes of which I have rarely seen (Shyte, woman: so the chicken isn't defrosted! Sheesh, just put it in the microwave already!), and reduced poor joane to tears over something which she should have done anyway (and had said she would do) and was really so trivial as to boggle the mind that she was making an issue of it at all.

Anyway, the less said about that the better. Possibly I'm being uncharitable, and maybe it was because she was tired or whatever, but if she had bitten her tongue and not said 3/4 of the nasty, unnecessary things she said, the evening would have been a lot more pleasant. :P

The evening ended up nicely enough. We made a delicious chicken stir-fry with risotto (which joane's mother pronounced "edible" at the end *grr*), and then had tea and watched Stargate (the movie), which seemed to put everyone in a much better mood.

I left at around 11 and dragged my tired self home, checked LJ half-heartedly and collapsed in bed.

Game plan today is to get a lot of work done. I hope I succeed.

Am pondering going to have dinner with the Parental Units. After yesterday, I think I could probably remain patient enough to appreciate the fact that they're not always completely psycho, and when they are it's usually not personal. ^^;

*curls up in a ball*

I should be working on my translation, but I don't feel like it. *sigh*

In other news, my computer died and rose from the dead in the space of two hours today. Turns out the outlet it was plugged into now no longer gives out electricity. Dunno why. *shrug*

Oh, and I finally tested out my computer (after the resurrection) and found out it does indeed play DVDs. Yay!

*goes to sleep on chair*
