Hopefully that was short-lived
Jan. 13th, 2017 10:52 pmThe insomnia appears to have resolved. I think. I went to bed late because I ended up watching Critical Role, but I slept soundly for seven hours, and then had a two-hour nap before work without any issues (other than I got really cold, for some reason). So, yay for that! Insomnia sucks.
Today was kind of a not-much-happened day. I got my hair cut (no pictures, sorry) and am quite pleased with the result. I sort of knew my hair had soft curls, but the kind of minimal styling I've always done to it usually let to it hanging straight. No longer! So now my hair curls, which feels super weird. I got used to thinking of myself as someone with straight hair. I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't have the kind of curly hair that people with actual curls complain about, with frizzing and hairbrush issues. Still, it's definitely not straight. Which, I suppose, is fitting, since I'm not straight either. ;)
That aside, I went home and played a video game that I am basically terrible at, called 7 Days to Die. It's a zombie game, and I really, really love zombies. No, really. However, I find this game SUPER stressful, because it's also a crafting game (it's basically "fast zombies and Minecraft have a really scary baby together"), and it takes me forever to work out the mechanics of crafting games. The problem? The zombies are super vicious, they turn fast at night, they're hard to kill, AND there are special zombies (zombie dogs, climbing zombies, zombies that call other zombies, spitting zombies, you name it) which are even harder to kill. So, basically, you're meant to die a fair bit, especially at first. Since I am not especially gifted at games, and also have to spend a lot of time looking at my mini map to orient myself, I die about three times more than average (this is a rough estimate, based on anecdotal evidence from friends). I couldn't work out a single crafting recipe other than the most basic tool, which, spoiler, is not exactly effective against zombies anyway, because I kept getting killed and losing all my gear and having to start again from scratch. Oh, and on the seventh night (hence the title), the zombies triple in number and come after you as a screaming horde.
So, yeah. I was getting frustrated at not being able to "practice" any of the skills I needed to learn, so at the suggestion of one of my friends, I am currently playing with no zombies. The game is in beta, and it allows you to set whatever level of enemy spawning you want. So I've been poking at it and pestering my friends who play with questions that are probably super obvious. The game is still difficult for me in spite of not dying as much (I accidentally pissed off a bear a couple of times, and they ripped me apart. Oops.), but I'm slowly getting the hang of it. Once I've worked out the block mechanics (I am told they're identical to Minecraft, which doesn't help me because I've never played that), which doesn't look to be any time soon, I'll start a new game with actual zombies in it, and pray that I manage to make it work.
After the video game came a nap, and then work, which has been very work-like the whole evening and into the night. It finally started winding down about an hour and a half ago, when I was able to head out to grab something to eat (the nap resulted in a poorly-planned meal, alas, but I think I needed the sleep more).
So there you have my wild adventures of the day.
