This has nothing to do with anything

I'm back, safe but tired. Am watching Die Hard. Am beginning to think that I'll never be able to watch this kind of movie again. Fresh out of my dispatcher course, complete with a section on hostage taking, the movie is making me grind my teeth.
Yes, I get that Bruce Willis is supposed to be the hero. Unfortunately, I find it really hard to accept that the entire L.A. police force is completely and utterly useless and incompetent —maliciously incompetent to boot— up to and including their dispatchers.
I won't begin to enumerate all the things the movie has got wrong so far: I'll wear out my keyboard if I try. It's seriously compromising my enjoyment of the film as a whole.
On the plus side, I now finally understand
