Where has the love gone?
May. 2nd, 2009 07:35 pmDear X-Files,
We had it so good, you and I. I used to watch you with my mother every Friday, without fail. We even made my poor father eat dinner early sometimes so we'd be sure not to miss important episodes.
I relived the rush of discovery while I re-watched the first season. I loved watching the show mature all over again. I even forgave some of the foibles in seasons 6 through 8, because every show has its ups and downs, and there were enough good things to keep me coming back.
Now, though, I am watching Season 9, and I am not feeling the love anymore. You have a potentially interesting character in Agent Doggett, and Agent Reyes is annoying but not awful. I have to ask, though: did you fire all your writers and have some random guy from the production department write the script? Who came up with these plots? Poor Agent Doggett has come close to death three times already, and I'm not even halfway through the season! That's ridiculous. Scully is unrecognizable. It's as though they gave Gillian Anderson a completely different role to play and named it Scully for the hell of it.
I can't tell you how disappointed I am, X-Files. You're making a dog's breakfast of a show I loved. I know I'm years too late, and that everyone has already said this, but I feel compelled to say it again.
No love,
Me
