WorldCon, in summary, Part I
Aug. 16th, 2009 08:08 pmOkay, since I am unlikely to be able to post about this in detail ever, here is a summary of WorldCon:

I am going to fall down and die now.
Aug. 7th, 2009 11:19 pmI can't imagine what the people organizing this Con are feeling right now. I am d-e-d. Going to go pass out.
I got an autograph from Connie Willis, who is seventeen different kinds of awesome, was super nice and patient with my squeeing at her, and also generously agreed to pose for a photo with me.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Busy with Con Stuff, back later :)
Aug. 6th, 2009 11:52 pmAm having a great time. Saw George R. R. Martin. Managed not to squee and flail and instead gave him a really big grin and said "Good morning," quite serenely. He was very nice and pretended not to notice that I was a quivering pile of goo. ;)
Interesting panels, although I ended up missing the Neil Gaiman Q&A, which is too bad. All the stuff I want to attend seems to conflict. *sigh*
Having a great time. All guests are now here, and have mostly gone to bed, leaving me with my alone time with the computer.
I wish there was a way to inject an hour or so into the day specifically so I can post about all the cool stuff happening in detail, but it's just not happening.
Happy trails!

Given that we were all falling over with exhaustion, we made our way home with only a quick pit stop to buy some juice and some extra fruit (you can never have too much fruit), and arrived here in time to collapse in various heaps about the place. I made a chicken curry with spaghetti which was well-received, and then after a bit of chit-chat we all passed out for the night.
The morning started out quietly with a nice breakfast of fruit, cereal and croissants, and I was amused that none of us had the same thing to drink: I had coffee,

Upon returning home I harvested some lettuce from the garden and made a salad for lunch (sadly all the other veggies were store-bought), and then

We arrived back in plenty of time to greet

Everyone has gone to bed already, and I am headed that way myself.

I hope everyone is having a good week. I won't be around much to read or comment until next Wednesday, I wouldn't think, but I'll try to post regular-ish updates. I forgot my camera today, or there would be photographic evidence of all that's been going on.
Good night!
Oh, no you don't!
Aug. 4th, 2009 07:10 amDear body,
I know that last week was 64 hours of night shift. I know you're tired. I know I didn't give you enough sleep yesterday or last night, or all last week, really.
But this is NOT a good time to fall apart on me. I have stuff to do. I have to buy food, and run errands, and finish setting up the basement and the living room for guests. I have laundry, for goodness' sake!
So for the love of all that's good and holy, quit it!
No love,
Me
Dear Migraine Fairy,
Fuck off.
No love,
Me

Random Sunday afternoon post
Aug. 2nd, 2009 02:28 pmIt is pouring rain out. Good thing I didn't water the garden when I came in, eh?
The Parental Units dropped by yesterday afternoon to help me put up some pictures on the wall. They enjoy being helpful that way, and now I have several frames up where before there were bare walls. Shiny.
I spent a good part of the two and a half hours they were here trying to keep tabs on my mother, who, while my father and I were fussing with frames, decided to re-organize my broom closet. No, I didn't ask her to. So she rummaged, fussed, and got really annoyed with me every time I tried to intervene. She decided she didn't like the way the paint cans were still in the basement (despite the fact that my place isn't finished yet), and schlepped them up the stairs and put them in the back of the closet. I practically had to hold her down so she wouldn't throw away the paint pans, which don't belong to me.
"But you don't have room for all this!"
"Mother, I cannot throw away something that doesn't belong to me."
"Why don't you put them in the shed, then?"
"Because we're going to be using them soon, and I don't want
ashforestwalker to have to go on a treasure hunt for his own stuff."
My mother hasn't glared at me this much in the last year combined. I'm not sure what frustrated her so much about that broom closet, but she re-organized it to within an inch of its life, complete with loud banging and clattering as she dropped/shoved/tipped over various large things. I think I aged a year.
Overall, though, things are progressing. I still have things to hang, including one frame that I want to put over the staircase, except that I don't have a ladder that will reach that high.
I got another repeat done on the baby blanket, which is really starting to take shape now. I think it will be very pretty indeed once it's done. I'm going to take another photo and put it on Ravelry when I'm 50% done. Right now I'm about 30% done, 25% if you don't count the border.
I am a little appalled at how fast this week went by. I am never going to get everything done in time, so I guess it's time to start prioritizing. Oy. I am very excited at the prospect of WorldCon, but I think I may well be a wreck by the time it's over. I haven't had nearly enough sleep this past week, and I don't foresee that changing at all in the next seven to ten days or so. :P
