I had an appointment this morning with my audiologist, but when I got there it turned out they had me booked for 4pm instead. They had an opening at exactly the time I got there, though, so they saw me then anyway. Thank goodness, because my day was already halfway shot by then, and having to go back would have really thrown everything else off.

I think I solved our scheduling problem--well, ONE of our scheduling problems--with a bit of creative thinking. Unfortunately, all the other attempts to fix our short-staffing issues by my current boss and others have fallen flat. As it turns out, no one wants to come work for us, not that I can blame them. The pay isn't great compared to what you can get elsewhere, and our scheduling needs are not what most people are looking for. So for now it looks like we won't be getting any part-timers. *sigh*

I put out a bunch of recycling to the curb tonight, but it's not all of it. I'm going to make an attempt to get up early to get the rest of it out tomorrow. Yes, we are playing the "I told you so" game again. Let's see if I win it this time! ;)

Dear neighbours,

I applaud your decision to recycle. No, really: it's good for the environment and all that. I, too, recycle regularly.

However, recycling does NOT mean piling mounds and mounds of unsorted TRASH in MY recycling bin.

No, really. I don't want your garbage in my recycling bin, which I take great pains to keep properly maintained. Please to do your own sorting and to get your own FREE green box from the local eco-centre, which is ONE WHOLE BLOCK AWAY.

No love,

Me

My recycling box is gone. Woe! Another thing I have to put on my to-do list. Poor recycling box, sacrificed to the gods of snow removal. It figures that something like this would happen just as I'm trying to be more environmentally responsible.

Had to get up stupidly early to move the car yesterday, only to have them *not* remove the snow. Got up stupidly early today for the same reason, but they appear to be following through on the snow removal thing now, which makes me feel better. I know they're overworked, but that doesn't make me any less tired for it.

At some point, when my energy comes back (hah!) I am going to start researching all my local government-type folk (municipal, provincial and federal) and start writing stern letters about environmentalism, social development, and all that sort of good stuff. I just have to figure out who to write to.

Just got happy election stuff in the mail. I am officially registered to vote in the upcoming provincial election. Too bad none of the candidates is one I feel comfortable voting for. Theoretically there's a green candidate in my riding, but he/she/it hasn't seen fit to even send out leaflets, so I have no idea who they are. Bah. I should go poke them, but I don't know when I'll have time to do that. Gotta make time, I suppose.

I have made cream of wheat this morning, and added apples and cinnamon. I think it ought to taste quite good. *tests* Yep. Excellent. Can't think why this didn't occur to me before.

I've noticed a trend among the more modern sci fi shows to have other humans as the worst kind of enemy. Been watching Battlestar Galactica right on the heels of Babylon 5, and thus can't help but see parallels between Clark and Cain. Part of me is glad that it's not just the aliens that are the bad guys (or the Cylons, who are alien by extension), and another part of me is thinking "Oh God, not again!" I think it's just because the kind of shows I watch tend to pose the larger questions, and so the same motifs return. I doubt very much that most of mainstream American television would make it very clear that torturing prisoners is a bad thing. I'm thinking, in this case, of 24, in which our heroes routinely turn to torture as a means of extracting information because they "don't have time for this."

I don't know where I'm going with that. I was just struck by it.

That's it for now, I think.

So I've been up past my bedtime two nights in a row playing with shiny new toys. Cameras and worms. Yes, I know, not an obvious combo. ;)

This means that getting started in the morning has been something of a struggle. Right now I have a load of laundry going, which is good. I also have to have breakfast, take a shower, and clean out the litter boxes (I keep forgetting to make that Sysiphus icon), and it's already past 11am. I have to be at my game at 1pm, too. Where on earth does the time go?

Mind you, this may have something to do with the fact that it was past 10am when I got up. With the new job, I've become accustomed to getting up around 8:00 or 8:30 in the morning (which I know is a ridiculously bourgeois hour for many of you, but since I generally don't get home until 11pm, I think it's okay), which gives me a good four hours or so, usually, before I have to be anywhere. This morning I not only got up late, but the game starts an hour and a half earlier than work does, which means I must plan accordingly.

Nattering about cleaning )

Right. Off I go to have breakfast and collect some of the recycling I accumulated this week. I am slightly annoyed by the presence of styrofoam that came with the camera. According to the little flier I got at the Eco-Quartier, styrofoam has to be brought directly to a recycling centre, and can't be processed by the green box people. *grr*

Oh well. I shall doubtless survive the extra trip, once I figure out where I'm going.

I have started putting my compost in a small coffee can on my counter. I was told to let the worms "chill out" for at least a week before giving them extra stuff to eat, so that they can get used to their new home. So.
