Oh the train, she is wrecked.
Mar. 18th, 2010 12:43 pmSo the basement is kind of fubar.
The water pump stopped functioning during the night, is the short version of the story, and ALL the water that accumulated in the French drain came up through the floor.
So now I don't have a floor so much as a small-scale version of the Laurentian Mountain range. The parquet buckled in really interesting ways, and it doesn't look like it's going to fix itself.
Also, the amount of water that sat there has pretty much guaranteed that I'm going to have a mould problem sooner rather than later if it goes untreated. That means ripping up the whole damned floor, doing whatever it is that needs to be done for mould, and then replacing the floor.
Maybe I'm being pessimistic.
Gah.
It's going to be an interesting summer.
On the plus side, because my housekeeping skills have improved considerably, I had almost nothing on the floor in the basement. I had one cardboard box which bit the dust, but it had some of my yarn in it, and it was all in plastic bags, so no harm, no foul.
One of the bookcases is stained on the bottom, but overall, in terms of personal property damage, it's Phnee: 1, Flood: 0.
