It has been brought to my attention that my posts can be distressing due to their content. While I try to tag my posts and put things behind LJ cuts, I also can't possibly anticipate every trigger that might be found in what I write.

Here is what you can do about this, since I am not planning on altering the content of my posts:

1- Go to my LJ profile and click "unfriend." My hand to God, I will not be offended. Do what you need to do in order to be safe and to keep the internet a safe and happy place for yourself.

2- If you feel that I would somehow be offended in spite of my assurances to the contrary, you can remove me from your "Default View" on LJ. The way to do this is to go to the "Edit Friends Groups" page, and remove my username from the list named "Default View." That way you never have to see my posts, but don't risk any unfriending drama.

3- If it's only specific entries that you don't want to see, then you can go to my profile and click on Modify Friend. Then at the bottom of the page you can specify which tags of mine you don't want to see. I do use a lot of tags, but they're pretty self-explanatory.

4- There's also the option of simply scrolling by my entries. Not as efficient, of course, but it's there.

[livejournal.com profile] iconsbycurtana is at it again. I love Madeleine L'Engle with much love, and so I snagged it. I appear to have misplaced my copy of Many Waters, and it turns out there's a fifth book in the series (featuring Meg's daughter, I believe), which means I may have to pick them up. Unfortunately, they have once again changed the look of the books, which means my shelves won't match. Again.

Have I mentioned how much I hate it when publishing houses change the look of their books? Especially when they do it mid-series (not the case this time, but still). There is a special place in hell, too, for the publishing houses that not only change the look of their books, but also change the size by a few millimetres (sometimes up to half a centimetre), because then the books no longer fit on the same shelf, damn them!

*pant pant*

So yes. Special hell.

In random news, I appear to have done something weird to my finger. The middle joint is stiff, and feels tight when I try to bend it too far. It doesn't hurt or anything, but it's uncomfortable.

The weekend was lovely, if far too short. Slept a bit on Saturday, got to see [livejournal.com profile] ashforestwalker briefly, and watched Persepolis with BorderCrossing. It's a really interesting film, about a girl growing up in Iran during the war, and the effect it had on her and her family. Interesting graphics, all hand-drawn animation ([livejournal.com profile] shenlo, [livejournal.com profile] rowen26 and [livejournal.com profile] karine, you might find it interesting, technique-wise), and a profoundly moving storyline. It's autobiographical, but the animation (based on the graphic novel) gives it a dreamlike quality which is quite mesmerizing.

In the evening I went to see [livejournal.com profile] owldaughter's concert, and sat with [livejournal.com profile] pasley and Devon, [livejournal.com profile] ashforestwalker and Liam, and had a very nice time indeed. The LCO has gained a lot in quality of sound with their new conductor, so all in all it was quite enjoyable.

On Sunday there was some mad scrambling to get out the door in time for Meeting, and I ended up being too late to attend, which sucked. I got some other stuff done, but not all my errands got run, and thus the morning was hectic and felt a bit wasted.

I was supposed to spend the afternoon cooking with [livejournal.com profile] luvenditti and [livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse, but the latter was felled by a migraine right before, and had to cancel at the last minute, much to everyone's disappointment (including hers, I'm thinking). So [livejournal.com profile] luvenditti and I made soup, and cabbage rolls, and spaghetti sauce, and meatballs, and sausages, and homemade pasta.

I am SO psyched about the homemade pasta! I have my own pasta maker now (courtesy of one of my coworkers, who very generously gave me his old one when he got a new electronic one), and I can hardly wait to start making my own! The recipe for pasta we used was not a difficult one, so it should be pretty easy to remember.

I got to bed really late, and as a result I am a bit twitchy this morning.

It also turns out that the Alouettes lost. Boo.

I apparently have no patience for the photo-uploading process. I have well over 200 photos (I am insane apparently), and have found no good way to mass upload/mass re-size them. So I am uploading in batches of ten, and then re-sizing one at a time. It is taking for-freaking-ever. I also have to sleep at some point in time, so once again, there will be no post of substance today concerning France. At this rate, I don't know when I'll have them done, since dealing with the visual component is taking so freakin' long.

Anyway, please bear with me, folks. I promise that this will get done, sooner rather than later. I just can't devote as much time to it as it really needs right now. I will post some teaser pictures later tonight, to tide you over. Bear in mind, I am the most amateur of all amateur photographers. None of the photos were taken with good photography in mind, but merely to document what I was seeing. I leave awesome photography to the likes of [livejournal.com profile] longpig, [livejournal.com profile] chibipunkdemon, [livejournal.com profile] ankhorite, and [livejournal.com profile] dizietsma, among many other talented photographers of my acquaintance.

In other news, I took the cats to the vet for their follow-up appointment, which cost "only" half of what the previous one did. George has what looks to be a respiratory tract infection, so he gets pills twice a day for ten days. If that doesn't help, then we're looking at even more expensive treatments. *sigh* I love my cats. I just wish they weren't so damned expensive.

I am considering an icon overhaul of this LJ. I hate icon overhauls, because I love ALL my icons, even the ones I never use. However, my icons are ceasing increasingly to reflect what I'm doing with my life these days, and so I think I may have to do something drastic. In fact, I may try to overhaul the look of my LJ completely for the first time in... what... four years? *gasp*

Okay. Back to re-sizing and stuff.

Halifax was awesome. It truly deserves its own update, but I didn't get around to doing that and now I have no time. Perhaps I shall manage one this weekend.

The Overtime Fairy has visited again. I've been called in for overtime today and tomorrow, thus canceling two days of my vacation. Boo. I'm also looking at an eighty hour week starting Saturday morning. Whee. My vacation bank is currently full, which means -woe!- that I shall have to be paid for my work. Paid! Oh, the anguish! *cough* Yeah,

I will not be participating in the LJ strike. Once again, I am highly unimpressed by the drama, and have no personal reason to be dissatisfied with the service I have received from the people who are currently running LJ. I have always received the service for which I paid, and there's an end to it. Many people have written more eloquently than I on this topic, and I'm not going to contribute more than this paragraph to the mountains of verbiage out there.

My LJ is six years old today, and it's been a little over five years since I've had a permanent account. It's hard to believe it's been that long. So much has changed since I started writing in this space, and for the better.

Happy Birthday, little LJ, and here's to many more years together. :)
