mousmeBack on day shift this week, and today was a doozy. First off, we're really short-staffed this week, and so it was just me and one of the other new girls. Kind of nerve-wracking, given that we have four months' experience between the two of us. Then, everything went to hell. The phones rang off the hook, and I got sixteen arrest warrants in various stages of execution to process (four to put in the system, two to confirm, and ten to remove). Warrants is normally a full-time position, except that I also had to handle Position 1, which handles most of the incoming calls, and all of the incoming computer messages on CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) and the CRPQ (Centre des Rapports de Police du Québec) and deal with all those requests as well.
Then I got a Phone Call of Doom™. You know, one of those calls that reproduces and makes lots of little baby calls? And then the baby calls grow up into Giant Monster Calls themselves. I won't go into much detail here, but the general story was that a man from Toronto was arrested at Pierre Elliott Trudeau airport on Saturday and was being detained. I spoke to his family in Toronto, who told me that they hadn't heard from him, that no one would tell them where he was being held or why, and that they couldn't even find out which police force had arrested him. I eventually got most of it sorted out, but it took up my entire morning, on and off.
Thankfully another coworker arrived at 11:00 and took Position 1 so that I could deal with the massive backlog of warrants. As it was, I took up Position 3 (the admin. position) and was thoroughly swamped with faxes for the rest of the day.
On the plus side, the day fairly flew by. I blinked and it was time to go home.
