The Crusade for Cleanliness continues!
Jun. 6th, 2006 10:10 pmThis is for my own purposes, and is very, very boring. I'm just putting it in public to motivate me to finish my Crusade for Cleanliness.
Cleaning To-Do List That Will Interest No One But Me
By room, in no particular order of importance:
Bathroom
1- Finish laundry
2- Clean out cupboard under bathroom sink
3- Wipe down sink & counter
4- Clean toilet & bathtub
Bedroom
1- Throw out trash
2- De-clutter (esp. Clothes)
3- Strip bed, wash sheets & pillowcases
4- Sweep & wash floor
5- Flip mattress
6- Find home for linens
Kithen
1- Dishes (*sigh* didn't I just finish those?)
2- Sweep & wash floor
3- Wash sink & countertops (& stovetop)
4- Wash refrigerator
5- Wash cat dishes
Living-Room
1- Wash floor
2- De-clutter
3- Get cat hair off furniture (gah)
4- Put bookcase in order
Dining-Room
1- Clean litter boxes (the fun never stops)
2- Wash floor
3- Move table against window
4- Clean out large storage closet (de-clutter)
5- Clean out small storage closet (de-clutter)
Apart from the whole closet-cleaning bit, and perhaps the sorting through clothing bit, this actually shouldn't take me very long to do. All in all I'd estimate an afternoon's worth of assiduous work, possibly a little bit more.
What takes time is the floor-washing and the de-cluttering. All the rest, while not very pleasant, doesn't take all that much time. One thing I really, really wish for is that litter boxes cleaned themselves. Yes, I know there are self-cleaning boxes out there, but that's kind of a misnomer, really: eventually you have to clean them out, and they don't really work for households with more than one cat.
So this Sunday I shall do more cleaning. Actually, I'm planning to do a little tiny bit of cleaning in the evenings this week as well, but the bulk will have to happen on Sunday. After the big push this weekend, it will simply be a question of maintenance rather than actual massive cleaning. I'm already very pleased with the progress I was able to make this past Sunday. There's nothing like having a clean home to feel better about oneself. Granted, my home isn't clean yet, but it's much cleaner than it was, and that's saying something.
I've been saying for a while that I'm going to be getting rid of a lot of "stuff" that I don't use/need/want anymore. Some of that is going to be the really old clothing that I don't wear not only because it doesn't fit, but also because it's old and unwearable. I mean really, really unwearable. Not even worth giving away to goodwill because it's in such poor condition. I hate shopping for clothes, and so I invariably wear out all my clothing until it's full of holes that can't be fixed because the cloth is too thin. Then, perversely, I hang onto the clothing anyway "just in case," or because I tell myself that I can wear it while I'm cleaning or just around the house. Only I never do. So one project will be tossing all that hole-ridden, icky stuff that's just taking up valuable space.
The other de-cluttering project is paper. I don't know how I managed to accumulate all this paper, but I'm sure I don't need three-quarters of it. I just have to sort through it and viciously tell myself that if I haven't looked at it in over a year, then I don't need it. Unless it's official government stuff or a school diploma. I will get rid of many of my old character sheets that I've been holding onto "just in case" the game ever starts up again. All my old gaming notes that I kept for nostalgia's sake. Seriously, everything memorable about the games I've been in is stored in my head. I don't need cryptic notes taken in 2001 to remind me of it.
I also have a number of small knick-knacks that I don't need or want. I seem to accumulate them when people give them to me as cute presents and then I don't have the heart to get rid of them afterward because it seems wasteful. No more. I shall be swift and merciless with the knick-knacks, and only keep those that I really, really want, which will be few, as God is my witness.
I'm looking forward to having the breathing room. :)
