In random news, I remain diseased. This stupid sore throat just won't go away. It faded a little bit over the weekend, so that by Saturday I thought I might be okay, but by Sunday evening it was back again. Most annoying. I am currently trying to kill it with citrusy-type cough drops and vitamin C. Every so often it threatens to develop into a proper cold, but it hasn't so far. I wish it would make up its mind one way or the other.

Anyway, enough of that. Now I must proceed to eat my words, something which doesn't happen that often, but is not unheard of.

Those of you who know me well know that I don't play computer games. They generally confuse and terrify me, because I just don't have the reflexes to play them properly. I'm too busy flinching and/or jumping as something evil attacks me. As a result, I never really understood the attraction for those people who spend hours and days and weeks in front of their computers, running around in imaginary worlds, killing random creatures and becoming more powerful so they can kill even more powerful creatures. Given the choice, I'd rather be outside enjoying real scenery and running around for real.

Until, that is, [livejournal.com profile] fearsclave introduced me to World of Warcrack. Now, his internet connection is mercifully slow enough that even my piss-poor reflexes weren't a problem for the game. I honestly don't know what to tell you, except that that game is bloody well addictive. I can't even tell you why, precisely. All I know is that Sunday afternoon I made a character "just to see what it was like," and by yesterday evening the character was at level 9. O_O

The thing is, I honestly don't know precisely why I couldn't let it go. The game in and of itself was not all that great. There are some very nifty aspects, don't get me wrong, and I enjoyed it tremendously. I decided to play a Tauren character (something like a minotaur), and I went around and shot at critters and rolled the bodies for loot. It's awfully cartoon-y looking, the dialogue is limited and kinda hokey, and often by the time I got halfway through a quest I found that I was a little bored. However, the boredom did not actually make me want to stop playing. What it made me want was to keep playing and finish the quest so that I could get to a more interesting part of the game. I wasn't bored with the game, but rather with killing the same kind of beastie over and over again.

So, there you have it. [livejournal.com profile] fearsclave lent me his copy, and I was all set to install it at home. I lucked out, I will confess: Cleopatra (my computer), is too old to run WoW. She's a G3, and WoW requires a G4 or G5 from its Mac users, as well as a much faster CPU. Why do I say I lucked out? Because it's early enough in the addiction that I can quit this cold turkey without too many adverse effects. If I'd managed to install it, God only knows when I would have come up for air. See, my character is one level away from being able to get a pet, and then it's only so much time before you get more nifty stuff, and on and on until you just never stop playing.

So I dodged a major bullet there. One of these days, when I have money again (which won't be for a long time), I may try to upgrade Cleo, and get myself thoroughly hooked. In the meantime, I will continue as I always have, without WoW.

Uh, that link doesn't lead anywhere for me. It just says "you don't have any galleries." You may have linked me to your "manage galleries" page, methinks.

Got it, thanks!

What happened to the screencap of her sleeping with her axe? :)

More pics uploaded, including the "Ooo isn't she adorable sleeping there with her great big axe" shot and one of my Night Elf Hunter main, with his riding tiger, pet bear, and Human Orphan in tow.
