I know I've already said this, but it bears repeating.

So, recap:

Capricornucopia went off almost without a hitch. There were some minor glitches along the way, but they were minor and we dealt with them quite well, I think.

I did my usual thing of flapping around being stressed which is my usual state when I'm trying to organise an event. I'm very glad people put up with me. ;)

Band practice in the morning, and in the afternoon I met up with [livejournal.com profile] foi_nefaste, [livejournal.com profile] miseri and [livejournal.com profile] sorceror, my partners in crime. We dealt with last-minute casting issues, figured out our props, and went grocery shopping. As it turned out, we overestimated the amount of drinkage we'd need, but there was only a little bit too much food, as opposed to last year, when there was food coming out of our ears.

We had to juggle some of the casting around due to last-minute cancellations, but a few people stepped up to the plate and performed magnificently. The play itself I think went quite well. [livejournal.com profile] sorceror and I, with help from the little man who was around for that purpose, figured out hwo to work the lighting on the stage. I spent the entire play pacing anxiously from one end of the room to the other and watching my friends bring everything we'd worked so hard on to life, and it was absolutely wonderful.

The good thing about putting on a play, and I preferred this year's Capricornucopia format to last year's for that reason, is that I got to see more of the results of the fruits of my labour. Last year I wasn't privy to most of the conversations and interactions going on, whereas this year I got to watch them all, even if I was hopping around distractedly and praying that things would work out.

They did, in fact, work out, in case you had any doubts.

My friends are awesome. They stepped up to the plate and delivered, even when the going got rough.

Of course, then they pulled a very cheap trick while I was up on stage at the very end, thanking people for coming and still stressed out from the evening. [livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse came on stage and handed me an envelope with a card (it had a bunny with leopard spots against a zebra background: it was adorable), and told me to read it out loud.

Once upon a time...

There was a girl named Daphné who hated her job and wanted to courses in emergency dispatch to get a better job.

But the courses were expensive and she didn't kknow if she had enough money.

So Daphné's friends got together and raised some money to pay for the courses and gave her the money as a birthday present.

And the all lived Happily Ever After.

True Story

Yeah, so I never got past "raised some money to pay for the courses." Very unfair to spring it on me like that. I burst into tears right there on the stage and had to turn the MCing over to [livejournal.com profile] sorceror and [livejournal.com profile] miseri because I was a sobbing mess.

Did I mention that my friends rock?

This is a really, really welcome break, especially when I looked at my bank account this week and realized I'm about $200 poorer than I thought I was.

:::giant smooches to all my friends, because you are t3h 4w3s0m3:::

Mergoat. :-P

No, I got that. But... goatstravaganza?

There's a word you won't see every day. Must get Steve to put it in the Phrontistery.

No worries. I know that you have financial woes of your own. ^^;

It's all [livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse's fault. ^_^

*hugs*

Like attracts like. You're awesome, so you have awesome friends.

Thank you (and all your co-authors) for a wonderful night! I had lots of fun, and I'm sorry we had to leave as soon as we did.

No worries. I understand that small babies = early bedtime. Also, we were all gone by about 11pm anyway. Everyone was keeling over from exhaustion.

Next year we're going to have the celebration before the middle of the month so that everyone is still riding the holiday high. :D

Thank you for coming and for being so awesome. Everyone rocked hardcore.

Aren't they great?

It was a welcome break after a really stressful week. Mind you, I still haven't forgiven them for making me cry onstage. ;)

Sadly, I would gladly make you cry on stage again for the hug I got afterward.

Though I was worried for a moment there that you were going to actually collapse, but you didn't, so it was all good.

And it's not all my fault by the way. You can blame everyone whose name is on that card. You have very generous friends. Also, you deserve it. Have I said that enough?

Yeah, you timed it really well. Luckily I don't collapse easily. Meltdowns and implosions, yes, complete collapse, no.

You deserved way more than just that hug. Everyone did, actually. :)

You're all awesome and I'll never be able to thank you enough.

The play was commensurate compensation. Thank you.

When I told my mother I was going out, she just about had a stroke .... and then I told her it was your birthday party, and she said ... "well, if it's DAPHNE...."

I agree.
