Unsure if it helps (or has anything to do with it really) but there's an ice bridge (also called the Rainbow Bridge) in Norse Mythology. It divides the world of men from the realm of the Gods.

Are you a fan of Wagner? If you're not, may I suggest giving him another listen? I'm pretty sure you'd at least like the way he thinks. The correlation between staging effects and music, the marriage of music to they key themes, etc.
