Dear stupid fuckwitted person who maintains the Lasalle College website,

I don't want to fucking download fucking Netscape in order to read your webpage. I have three browsers already on my computer. THREE. So, insisting that I download Netscape by redirecting me to the Netscape download page is SERIOUSLY pissing me off. I just want to look around the site.

Why shouldn't I be able to do that with Firefox, or Internet Explorer, or *shudder* Safari? Please explain this to me. No, I mean it. I want you to explain to me where you get off telling me what software I should have on my computer to access your site. You say the site is "optimized" for Netscape, but you don't even allow me the choice of viewing it with a "non-optimal" browser.

Now, if this was a personal webpage, I wouldn't care so much. People can do whatever the hell they want with personal webpages, and if I can't view them, well then it's too damned bad for me. However, this is a webpage for a SCHOOL. Presumably, there are many people out there who will have browsers that are NOT Netscape, and who will for many reasons not wish to download Netscape on their computers. Are you telling me that because they refuse to comply with your stupidly arbitrary demands, that they can't get information about your school? What kind of stupid fucking logic is that? In the long run, you're only hurting yourself.

In conclusion: you suck.

No love whatsoever, not even in its tiniest most rudimentary form,

Me

A more ... diplomatic version of this letter should be sent to them, so that they know, and hopefully fix the issue.

If they don't, then they don't deserve your money, and there are other schools you could go to.

Oh, trust me, they will be getting a letter from me. Without the swearing. ;)

I just wanted to see what kinds of programs they offered, and instead I get the Instant!Download of Doomâ„¢.

Grah!

I am going to put my frustrations aside now and go to bed. :)

Yep, that's a very dumb webpage.

However: I note that if you click on "Management" instead of "English", you can access the Site Map and see their list of programs, bypassing the stupid Netscape Download of Death page.

(Personally I *like* Safari. It's Exploder that makes me shudder;)

Safari routinely makes my computer crash. Have never figured out why.

Maybe it's a Mac issue rather then a browser one?

It works fine on mine and I use Firefox. :/

It's a Mac issue. It says that the site is "optimized" for Netscape on Macs and refuses to have anything to do with me until I download Netscape.

*snarl*

I'm wondering if it's a plugin issue. I've got the site working with Firefox on my computer, but there is a tiny, almost invisible (grey on white) declaration at the bottom of the page that says "This site requires FlashMX plugin." Maybe it defaults to trying to get you to download Netscape if you don't have the plugin?

Here's the link that it gives me to download the updated Flash plugins. And here's the link to the site map page behind the flash intro. "Welcome At LaSalle College," my butt.

Actually, it's a Mac thing. *snarl*

Not that it lets the school off the hook but IIRC there is a firefox plugin that lets you change the id string your browser sends, so it can pretend to be netscape, for instance.
