The "delete" key is not your friend (NaNoWriMo)

So I haven't entirely fed the quota for the day, but I'm not doing too badly, all things considered. I went to bed at 0045, and while I had been aiming for 833 words (half the quota for the day) I actually ended up with 1,103 according to my word processor. So, only 563 words left to write before midnight tonight to keep me on track.

The hardest part sol far has been in preventing myself from editing as I write. I had to practically sit on my hands in order not to get rid of entire sections of text that I ended up not liking. Write now, edit later. That's the new motto. Doesn't matter if I don't like the text, I can just put it in italics or a different colour or whatever and fix it in December.

The only time I used the delete key was to fix typos that I saw right away, and even then part of me thinks that that may have been too much. I'm allowed typos as long as they get fixed in December.

Okay, off to work. I think I may bring the computer with me, the way I did in August. That motivated me to write on my lunch hour, although lately I've been using my lunch hour to snatch naps. I will see how tired I am by the time one o'clock rolls around.

Oh, ye gods, can I relate. Right now I'm facing the fact that I'm only on paragraph four, and I've already written myself into a corner. Gahh!

The only way I'm getting around that is by inserting new stuff above the "bad" paragraph. I tell myself it's only wordcount that's important, so I can remove the offending prose after November 30th.

Actually, I ended up doing that: by inserting a paragraph in the middle, I essentially built myself a door out of the mess I'd made. Woohoo!

Yeah, there's a break room with really uncomfortable chairs. However, it's amazing what you'll get used to in the face of necessity. :D
