Okay, so the Week From Heck continues. Apparently it’s been extended to ten days, and I’m keen to find out if it’ll turn into two weeks. Whee.

Let’s recap.

1) No paycheque. I have to call my agency today to get them to put a stop-payment on it, charged to me, and I won’t get paid for another ten business days.

2) The cats turn into miniature four-footed Houdinis. Problem resolved quickly, but still not fun.

3) Well, any number of small irritants, due to point 1). Like, say, having no gas to put in the car, and very little money to, you know, actually eat.

But wait, there’s more!

I got a registered letter in the mail yesterday, from the SAAQ (that’s the Québec equivalent of the DMV, for my American friends). They claim that they sent me a form in the mail (which they didn’t) when I renewed my driver’s license, which has to be filled out by a physician, stating that I’m fit to drive.

Otherwise, they suspend my license on September 20th.

Apparently they don’t like crazy people on the roads. The voices in my head might tell me to run red lights or to aim at pedestrians. Not that I’m bitter or anything. :P

This of course has set off my mother, who’s now freaking out about what the people at my office will think if they find out, as though that has any bearing on the matter. I mean, really, even if it does come out that I’m bipolar, I would think that six months of really hard work and good results would speak for itself, don’t you? I haven’t been talking to myself or shouting at the managers or inventing people who don’t exist, so I’m reasonably sure they all think I’m sane.

Gah. This is why I’ve stopped telling stuff to my mother.

Anyway, I now have to get an appointment, miss time off work, pay $35 to get the form filled out, and generally waste a lot of time and money, all because I was honest on my renewal form. That’ll teach me, I guess.

Individually, none of these problems is that huge. Certainly none of them are insurmountable. Some of them will be solved when I get my money. Others have already been solved.

It’s just been a really pissy time lately, and it’s sorely trying my patience.

I'll definitely be online tonight for commiseration and vent-shouldering, sweetness. Care to borrow my standard mantra? "Like all things, this too shall pass." It's a platitude, I suppose, but I often find cliches accidentally useful. :)

Thank you. :)

Am looking forward to the posting frenzy of tonight.

That's a very hot icon you've got yourself there.

Argh. My sympathies.

Why do we get punished when we try to do the right thing?

I'm assuming the question is rhetorical, but even if it isn't, I have no answer.

I can understand that they want to be safe. Having someone certifiably insane on the roads is Not A Good Thing.

My friend's mother, just before she was diagnosed as schizophrenic, caused a major traffic accident because she was listening to the voice of God as she was driving. She nearly got herself, her two children who were in the car, and all the passengers of the other vehicle killed, because she ran a red light.

OTOH, she probably wouldn't put a check in the "psychiatric disorder" box on the form, either. :P

If your disorder is a hazard, then yes, I'd check it. When in doubt, I'd ask your doctor. "Hey, do I need to check that little box?" S/he will have a better idea of how appropriate it is, I think.

You're supposed to tell the SAAQ when you're bipolar? No one told me that. Don't think I'm gonna send them a letter or anything, but that's interesting as hell.

There's a few people at work who know I'm bipolar, and they're all shocked and don't believe me. Your works speaks for itself. That's the way it should be.

There's a reporter here who I suspect is schizophrenic. I've seen her talking to someone who isn't there while she's smoking. Not all the time, just a few times a year. The work she turns out is still good, and she often stands in when the manager's on vacation. Mental diseases aren't unlike the regular kind: You handle it, you get treated, you live your life.

Yup. There's a little box that asks whether you have a "psychiatric disorder" which you check off.

Seriously, don't bother. Take me as your example, and leave the SAAQ out of your mental health decisions. It's just a pain in the ass otherwise.

does this mean I have to start admitting to the imaginary conversations and fights I have in the car?

Not unless a doctor has said you're certifiable, I don't think. The check box asks if you've been diagnosed with a psychiatric illness.

All undiagnosed loonies are free to wreak havoc upon the raods of Québec.

But wait, there’s more!

... it's not sold in any store!

But yeah, pain in the ass. My sympathies. *hugs*
