I am BORED.

L has gone home early, and there are only two other people left in the office. I have no doubt they'll be going home soon too.

Fifteen minutes before I'm allowed to leave.

Somebody has put something in the water today, I'm sure of it. Everyone's been succumbing to fits of the giggles all day long. It was really quite entertaining, and now my head hurts from laughing so hard. That's actually kind of sad: that laughing would make my head hurt. Oh well. I enjoyed it while it wasn't painful. :)

So, tell me, faithful readers: when you don't like something about yourself, do you change it? How do you proceed in that case?

I know y'all have insightful answers to give me. Let's hear 'em!

I will step in here, even though it's been posted a while.

I am really luucky in that I have always be fairly satisfied with my self, and accepting of my faults and flaws. I have never disliked something about myself so much that I felt it *needed* to be changed. I like to think that I'm lucky in this respect, but it could be I'm just being selfishly in denial ;)

If somethign is makling me unhappy, I tend to look more for external stimuli that are making me react in negative ways, and see if I can change my situation.

and I don't know if this is what you are refering to at the moment or not, but I was thinking about your earlier post about trying not to feel *entitled* to things like a vacation.... You're not entitled, but I don't think it is wrong of you to wish you had a chance to get away. If you stay in the situation you are in now, only time is going to bring you delicious sweeet relief, partly because you are only a temp. but you
ve been doign other office jobs for how long now? Maybe you could see if youcould find another job doing somethign similar that would be in a better environment, and *not* a temp position? I don't really know how these things (meaning the job market and such) work in Monreal, but can it hurt to look? You deserve to be a happy Phnee :)

Agreed about everyone being entitled to be happy - if that's what you're looking to change, I don't think you need to. If a paid vacation isn't possible right now, would it be feasible to take an unpaid day off sometime to make a long weekend? Or even just to take advantage of, say, [livejournal.com profile] fearsclave's cottage on a weekend? Even a mini-vacation can help with personal sanity :)

*hugs*

Thanks. :)

No, I wasn't referring to my earlier post, oddly enough. It was more of a general question, because there are a few things about myself that I don't find productive at all (in terms of character traits). So I was just wondering if there were people in the same boat out there. :)

Well, if I see it as a permanent and constricting flaw, I'll try to do something about it. Of course, its the 'doing something about it' where I tend to fail miserably, because recognising there's a problem is really only a small part of it all... Which is why I'm blowing $100 every couple of weeks seeing a professional. Not everyone can afford that, though :(

Changing stuff

For me, the first step is check whatever it is through the Serenity Prayer ... i.e. is it something I can change.

If it's a personality quirk that you'd like to change, I suggest a look at why it's working for you. Because, if you're doing it, it is working for you in some way. When you examine the basis and decide that you'd prefer a different outcome, it may just do a flip on you. I think sometimes we get stuck in behaviours out of habit. They used to work for us, but we haven't examined them lately to determine their qualifications for current use. Whew, that sounds like very convoluted English.

Luv ya! If you need a holiday for a day or two, come on out on a weekend and we'll "craft".

I suppose it's pointless to tell you that I think you're fabulous as you are ...

saying that, I am also trying to change a few things about myself, and as you said to me, it's a little bit at a time, and to quote G.I.Joe knowing is half the battle!
