I got a blender. I will be blending things soon, like a mad blending thing.

No, I am not changing my superhero name again. That would be silly.

Besides, rocking like a Rocking Thing can totally encompass blending like a mad blending thing.

Christmas morning was very pleasant. My father gave my mother a card whose contents (of which I am still ignorant) made her cry (in a good, soppy, Christmas-y kind of way). I got a blender and some CDs. Louis Armstrong and Johnny Cash. The latter because my father has apparently been paying attention to what I say lately and remembered that I'm into country dancing lately. I've never actually actively listened to Johnny Cash, but I thought the gesture was incredibly touching.

Oh, and money. Money is nice.

Survived seeing the family. We got about five extra people unannounced due to my insane aunt's usual tactics, but everything went pretty smoothly nonetheless. I helped transition from a sit-down lunch to a buffet, bossed around some of my cousins so we could get all the food organized, and generally things went well.

I find my family very hard to relate to (no pun intended, har har har), since we mostly have nothing in common. They don't understand me, or my parents, and pretty much think we're the fruit loops of the family. Still, everyone made a big effort to be nice and cheerful, and generally speaking we all had a nice time.

It helped that most people had other places to get to for the evening, so by the time four thirty rolled around there was only one aunt and uncle left, instead of the fourteen or so people we had been only an hour before. By shortly after five they were gone, and we were able to finish the day quietly.

This is a great improvement over previous Christmasses, when my bachelor uncles would outstay their welcome until 2am, drinking heavily and becoming increasingly annoying until either my mother and I went to bed or until we threw them out.

Seems people are mellowing with time, which, in this case, is a good thing.

I got to watch A Christmas Carol (yesterday) and It's A Wonderful Life, both movies (well, several movies, in the first case) which I like and yet get on my nerves for different reasons. They're wonderful holiday fare, but movie renditions of A Christmas Carol usually miss the point of the story (not entirely, but mostly), and It's A Wonderful Life makes my teeth itch on many levels. That's a rant for another day, I guess.

Tomorrow I'm heading up to my godparents' country place for the day, or at least for the afternoon. I'm going to try to get some snowshoeing in. I was warned today that there might be an unpleasant surprise waiting for me there, namely my rather psychotic ex-best-friend, who managed to pull me and an entire circle of adults into a very messy melodrama almost nine years ago. Then again, she made the conscious decision back then not to speak to any of us ever again (or whatever it was she decided that involved literally turning her back on us in public if we addressed her), so she may opt out of coming.

I shall see. To be honest, I'm not entirely all that fussed. I was surprised and not a bit shocked when I first heard she might be there, but I find now that I don't have as much time for mind games as I used to. At least, not when I recognize them (I was going to rant about my aunt, who played her own share today, but she bored me with her behaviour and I ignored her, so I don't see why I should waste my time writing about her either).

Now I'm going to go to bed and read a bit before passing out. If there are unpleasant surprises tomorrow, I shall avoid them by going snowshoeing. ;)
