Do you suppose there's a qualitative difference between a cross and a crucifix when repelling a vampire?

Well, I'd personally think a crucifix would work better, having the son of God and all that on it...

Um, I am thinking right? A crucifix has Jesus on it doesn't it? Or am I just showing how woefully ignorant I am of religious symbology?

Would this be for one of your games?

Better be. If it's for real life, I'm more than a little disturbed. O_o

I think that it's more what the cross/crucifix is constructed of - last time I checked, there had to be silver somewhere in the construction.

I would think it would depend on how it was constructed. Sort of like those pictures that Catholics create, or holy water. Holy water is just water blessed, so maybe because a crucifix has more "holy energy" put into its creation if it were hand carved, it might be more powerful, but otherwise, no more powerful than a regular old cross. Of course it would also depend on whose rules you are playing by. :)

I've always been of the opinion that it depends more on the faith of the person holding it ^-^ Otherwise, I'd have to say no, as long as the cross is actaully intended as a religious symbol and isn't just some random element of design.

Of course, it also depends on the Vampires, doesn't it? ^-^ Not all flavours are affected by religious symbols at all.

X marks the spot

I would presume there is no difference, in movies at least. I've often seen people tie two pieces of wood to make makeshift crosses before going vampire hunting. But like in Fright Night, unless you have faith, crosses or crucifixes won't work, Peter Vincent!

Keep in mind that children who were dragged into theatres to watch the passion of Christ by their parents, may have developed a severe phobia for crucifixes as well.

Otherwise liches are immune.

From what I understand, the people who wear crosses (Baptists? Protestants?) do so to symbolize that Jesus has risen. He's not hanging there anymore.
Catholics wear the crucifix to remind themselves of the passion.

Mel Gibson wears a nail on a string to remind himself of The Passion's merchandise.

So probably either would be fine, but Mel would be out of luck.
