Busy Saturday.

Breakfast with the Parental Units. Got dragged off by Paternal Unit for an orange juice outside the nest so that he could continue the ongoing lecture that is our relationship about how my role and duty in life is to make my mother happy and nothing else.

He offered to pay for my apartment and my studies as long as I went back to university. Well, no. That's not quite right. He told me that he would keep me in my apartment and pay for my studies if I went back to school.

Yes, we're back to Mind Games 404 with Professeur Brunelle. He likes having that financial handle bolted into my spine so he can jerk me around, although he'll never admit it to anyone, not even himself.

At one point he came out with a load of garbage about having to keep up both my mother's and my morale all the time, and it was all I could do not to roll my eyes and kick him under the table. As it was, I couldn't help myself and blurted: "You're a veritable Lancelot, Papa." (It sounded more scathing in French)

Anyhoo, we kept it all civilized, even when my father told me that in a way I was like my uncle Patrice. I was unthrilled at the comparison, but bit my tongue. (I'd like to think that I'm *not* like a washed-out fifty year old man who thinks everyone is little better than pond scum that's only asking to be cheated out of their money. *grr*) After that, he drove me back to their apartment, and I took my own car home.

So, it all went reasonably smoothly.

After that, it was home again, home again, just in time to drive [livejournal.com profile] lux80 to the airport. She is now safe and sound in New Orleans where she will be starting her new job. I left her there with Prospero's Daughter to see her through customs and whatnot, and returned to my now-empty apartment (except for the cats).

Spent the rest of the afternoon putzing about until it was time to go meet [livejournal.com profile] miseri for afternoon mass, which is still confusing because it's in English. I'm so used to attending mass in French that, while I know what's going on, I don't know any of the responses the way I feel I should.

We went to Buffet Maharaja afterwards to meet up with PACEM, a Catholic youth group whose mission statement is still a bit fuzzy. The food was nice, but I wasn't overly impressed with most of the people. The leader of the group (organiser? I wasn't sure what to call her), Evelyn, was a sweetie, though. There was another translator, and a super nice girl doing a Ph. D. in music at McGill named Colette with whom I got along very well. [livejournal.com profile] miseri and I had a very fun and intense conversation about The Neverending Story and how very trivial the movie was. All in all, the dinner was a lot of fun.

Afterwards some of the Lebanese people in the group invited the rest of us to go to Arabesque, a nearby café-type place on Guy where you could smoke shisha pipes as well as get turkish coffee and assorted lebanese food. It might have been more fun had I not been really really tired by then and the music really really loud.

[livejournal.com profile] miseri and I called it an early night around 10pm, then stood and yakked on a streetcorner for another 45 minutes about ghosts and Call of Cthulhu before we realised how long we'd been standing there and each scampered for home.

Much fun was had. However, am now zonked. Having dinner with Parental Units and guests tonight, since Girls Night is off while Prospero's Daughter gets her newest tenant moved in.

Oh boy, do I ever know that feeling. You have my sympathy. :}

*grin*

I wondered if you might know each other. I forgot to ask her if she knew you, though. If I see her again I'll tell her we have a mutual acquaintance.
