New Year's Meme
Dec. 31st, 2003 05:04 pmA New Year's Meme.
In case you're curious, here's what I said last year.
Five things that 2003 taught me:
* No matter how bad things can get, they can always get worse; but the possibility that they can get better is always there as well
* Hope is the strongest force in the world
* The feelings of others are not my responsibility. It is not up to me to make sure that everyone around me is happy and comfortable. I can only do that for myself, and do that which is asked of me within reason only.
* You find and lose friends in the most unlikely places
* You can only learn when you stop fighting yourself (very hard to do in my case *sigh*)
Five personally significant events of 2003:
* Being admitted to the hospital after vomiting blood at work and spending about three weeks trying to pull myself together
* Coming out as a lesbian. Yay me!
* Quitting my job at Bell Mobility *spits*
* Hitting a rock bottom I hadn't suspected was there, then grabbing my pickaxe and giving the bedrock a good going-at before trying to climb out again. I don't know if that's an "event" per se, but it was personally significant, that's for sure
* Traveling to Connecticut with my mother and seeing my uncle for the first time in twenty years
Five things I want to do in 2004:
* Work or volunteer in a women's shelter (this is wishful thinking, we'll see if it happens)
* Find something to be passionate about
* Become completely financially solvent
* Continue learning to draw
* Pick up my music again
Five things I don't want to do in 2004:
* Go crazy again (no, really, I never want to do that ever again: meds are my friends)
* Go bankrupt
* Play at UN Peace Corps between my parents or any other people (cf "Five things that 2003 taught me")
* Let other people's judgment (or even what I perceive to be their judgment) of me dictate what I do with my life
* Read as few books as I did last year *shakes fist at Bell Mobility*
Five people whom I'd like to know better in 2004:
* Prospero's Daughter
* Janik

avren, whom I just met but who seems really cool, as well as her husband. :)
For the purposes of this last list, I only listed people I have contact with in real life, and whom I don't feel I yet know really well. Also, this list only allows five people. Please don't feel left out and abandoned if I didn't mention you. Waah! I almost feel like leaving that part out entirely. It doesn't seem right, because I want to get to know *all* my friends better. ;)

Date: 2004-01-02 05:48 pm (UTC)It sounds like 2003 was quite the year for learning important lessons. I hope for you that 2004 is the year to sit back and enjoy the benefits of those discoveries.
Happy New Year!
