Medicated the sucker into almost-submission! Take that, stupid migraine! *looks smug*

I'm thinking of revamping the look of my LiveJournal completely. The only reason I haven't done it is because it would take a lot of work and before I was scared that I would screw it up. Silly, huh?

Now, I have a few questions.

...

Well, shit. The person whose journal I wanted y'all to look at so I could ask you how she did that deleted it. Fuck!

I liked her, too. :(

Weird. She was updating up until a short time ago, as far as I could tell. She'd unfriended me back when my journal was friends-only because she said she wasn't reading my entries anymore (she said they were too long and too involved —imagine that! ^_-), and at the time she wasn't updating at all, so I unfriended her in return, but I checked in every three or four weeks to see how things were going. She started updating again sometime in November (a lot of friends-only stuff I couldn't see, but some public stuff too) and she seemed to be doing really well. She was falling in love all over again and taking care of her health and... well, poop.

I'm sad that she deleted her journal.

I hope it just means that she decided she didn't want it anymore and wanted to focus on her real life and not her internet life.

*sends happy vibes to DS*

Hope you're okay, wherever you are, sweetie.

Now, back to me. ^_-

I'm a big ol' reactionary, and still using the S1 style system. I don't really like the look of the new style system. It doesn't suit my temperament at all. So I'm not going to use it. However, I'd like a change from the Punquin look I've been sporting for the past year and a half. Way back when, before everyone and their cousin switched to S2, a few people had a style which allowed them to have their entries off to the side on the right of the screen, and a background image on the left which didn't repeat ad nauseam all the way down the screen. Now I'm selfishly wishing DS hadn't deleted her LJ, because it illustrated that perfectly. *grr*

Anyway, all I want is a picture on the left, and my entries on the right, each taking up roughly half the width of the screen, give or take. Does anyone know which style I'm talking about? I know I've seen it. Is this something that has to be custom-made? Bear in mind that I am mostly html-and-programming-challenged, not to say disabled.

In the meantime, I am off to hunt for images and stuff with which to revamp the look of my LJ. :)

It's custom done with overrides. I had mine like that for a while. If you find an image you like, I can help you out if you want. I'm still using S1 myself, and doing overrides with the generator scheme. Although at the moment my background isn't showing up at all. *kicks village photos*

You'll need somewhere to host your image, if you want to have one in the background. If you've got any other questions feel free to give me a holler. I'm not an expert, but I can find my way around the overrides pretty well.

Fantastic!

It's the Generator scheme, you say? Which overrides should I be using? I have space for hosting background images (if you look at my LJ, you'll see I have a background), but I don't want it to repeat the way it is now. I just want it to show up once, and I don't want it to be hidden by my text the way it is now.

Actually, would you be okay with continuing this by email? I'm heading to bed now, but I'll be up (hopefully reasonably early) tomorrow full of vim and vigour and raring to get started on this.

Thanks for the help, btw. I really appreciate it. :)

I'll take a look at your journal and then e-mail you.

No problem at all. I'm actually horribly addicted to playing with overrides. I've been thinking about changing my setup, and I've only had it about a month right now. This might just give me my fix.. For a little while anyway.

Since you're talking overrides... how do you override the titles? And can I get my default icon to show up in the S1 style that I use (Magazine)?

Err, the titles?

Am Ignorant!Phnee about most of these things. I can give you links to the FAQ about customizing, though. :)

For customizing in general: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqcat=customize

For the S1 system: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqcat=s1
(You'll find answers about overrides right at the top)

For the S2 system (hey, you never know): http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqcat=s2

Been there...

...done that, couldn't find the tee shirt. Your old style said things like... uh... 'bodies under siege' and 'a walk in the forest' instead of 'friends', 'calendar' and 'user info'. That's what I meant by titles, and that's what I want to change... if I only had a brain...

Oh, goodness.

Well, for the website name, that's easy. You can change that in your userinfo at the edit userinfo page, where it says "Website Name" or something like that.

As for the rest, I'm afraid I had created a custom style for my friends page, and actually wrote out all the URLs and gave them names and stuff. You can get the lowdown on creating custom styles in the FAQ if you have a lot of time on your hands and a very patient friend who knows zir way around html if you're not up to speed on the whole programming bit. [livejournal.com profile] firewillow was my saviour for that, sometime last May/June/July when I was creating my custom look.

I'll probably be re-doing a custom look for the generator aspect I have going now, but not anytime soon. :)
