I have done a ton of stuff so far, although not everything I wanted to. However, the night is young!

List of Things To Be Done

Progress made is in bold.

1- Sweep the floors in living-room/dining area and kitchen. Done.

2- Throw away a metric assload of papers. Did a whole bunch of that, and I think the light at the end of the tunnel might be a train. *dies* I actually came across a folder of [livejournal.com profile] joane's that I've never seen before and have no idea how I got hold of it. It's dated something like six or seven years ago. O_O

3- Do several loads of laundry. Two loads, including the sheets the cats peed on. It's a good start, and I'll try to do at least one more load tonight.

4- Do some vacuuming, especially the armchair that Smudge has claimed as his own. It used to be green. It's now black with green spots here and there. Blurgh. Some vacuuming done, not all of it. More needs to be done.

6- Clean up the kitchen (dishes, countertops, stovetop —which is once more covered in cat hair *sigh*). Done.

7- Do a "swish & swipe" in the bathroom, and clear out the laundry that's been accumulating there (see item #3). Done, except for some items of laundry still present.

8- Do some "flinging" of useless junk that's accumulated in the bathroom as well. Done.

9- Go through fridge and cupboards and toss out stuff that's gone bad/has been infested with icky bugs (I've become paranoid since the bug incident earlier this week. Ewww... O_o) Done. No further bug-related ickiness, thank God, although some things in the fridge were bordering on coming back to life.

10- Set up my "office space" in the corner where I used to keep the futon. I bought a three-month dry-erase wall calendar so that I can keep track of all my projects, and a small dry-erase board for writing down useful things on something *other* than small scraps of paper. Small scraps of paper get lost and I don't always look in my little black book for things, so this will be useful, I hope. Partially done.

Actually, for a while I was batting a thousand with that "office space" thing. First I mistook a permanent marker for my dry-erase one, and very nearly destroyed my brand-new $20 calendar. Luckily some Fantastic and a scouring pad fixed my blunder. Then I carefully stuck the adhesive tabs on the wrong side of my new dry-erase boards. Using Fantastic that time was ill-advised, and I had to do some hasty "decorating" with shiny paper to cover up my mistake. *sigh* At least it's all hung on the wall now and not destroyed.

A month ago a mistake like that would have stymied me completely. I would have concluded that I "can't do anything right" and left the calendar there on the wall with the permanent markings, only to feel guilty every time I looked at it for "wasting money" on something I'd ruined within hours of getting it. Same with the small dry-erase board. Happily, at least this time I tried fixing the calendar, which worked. Then, bolstered by my success with the calendar, I botched the dry-erase board but by then found the situation pretty damned funny, all things considered. So now my dry-erase board has sparkly paper glued on it, which isn't very attractive but certainly looks better than the nasty splotches that were there before.

It reminded me of a situation last year (while I was internetless, just after I moved, which is why I didn't chronicle it here within these pages) when I was trying to organise my home according to the teachings of Feng Shui. There I was, futzing around with a measuring tape, pen and paper and The Complete Idiot's Guide to Feng Shui, trying to make the points of the compass match up, when I backed up too far and tripped over a chair that was behind me.

I fell ass over tea kettle, smacked my head against the wall, and to add insult to injury the measuring tape I was holding snapped shut and sliced my finger to the bone.

I sat there, stunned, for about two minutes, and then burst into hysterical laughter. I mean, so much for living in harmony with my environment!

In other news, I found that I've accumulated $8,90 in Canadian Tire money. Given that I'll probably be making a stop there soonishly, this is a Good Thing™. I kept finding odd bills floating around, and today I put them all together and counted them. It's all good.

Oh, and I also found some "miracle money" which doesn't happen very often to me. A $5 bill somehow got tucked into a pile of papers a while back, and now it's mine! Whee! Actually, I'm pretty good at finding money on the street. In the past I've found a $20 bill, and several $5 and $10 bills, over the course of the years, that is, along with your standard pennies, nickels, dimes, and occasionally quarters. I've yet to find a loonie or a twoney, but I think that's because they're so heavy that people hear them when they fall.

Okay, it's much later than I ever intended, and now I need to go to bed. At least I managed to clear out a HUGE pile of papers (I have a tray thing with three shelves that was overflowing and now isn't. Am absurdly pleased with self now). Bed. Ooog.

Cool! You are so efficient. Having all that "Done" in bold is so sexy.

First I mistook a permanent marker for my dry- erase one, and very nearly destroyed my brand-new $20 calendar.

Reminds me of a gaming session. Amy's doodling on a corner of the battle map, which is essentially hex paper that's been treated so it can be drawn on and erased.
"Amy, stop that."
"Why? It's just doodling."
"Yeah, but you're using a permanent marker."
Looks down at it. "Why is a permanent marker with the dry-erase ones?"

Sigh. Lost that argument as well, and there's a cute sketch on the corner of the battle map.

Why thank you! *beam*

Your story is one that is familiar to many, many gamers, I think. I know the hex map some of my friends had had similar markings on it due to similar circumstances. ;)
