Well, at least I got a lot of stuff done.

My father borrowed his brother's electric drill and together we put up my towel rack (thank you to [livejournal.com profile] firewillow for the super useful tip that helped us not be completely incompetent!) and my new CD racks. I now have way more space to use. Go me!

I also made great progress in the bookcase department. Most of my books are now organised, and the greater part of my random and useless paperwork has gone into the recycling bin. Now all I have to do is sort the rest into the cardboard folders I got expressly for that purpose.

I have to go through all my mail and sort it out as well, and finish clearing off my dining-room table (okay, the only real table I have, but it's still sort of the dining-room table). I can actually see the surface of my table for the first time in weeks! I am vastly impressed with self. All my CDs have been put away too, and in an organised fashion. *pats self on back*

At this rate, my apartment might even be fit for visitors soon. *knocks on wood*

My father bought me a laundry hamper too, which was nice of him. He apparently didn't much care for my bag system (I have a fishnet-type blue bag for laundry, but it's a bit small). The new hamper is large and plastic, but at least it stores relatively easily and is not a total eyesore.

We put spackle over the big holes in the bathroom wall, and I think I'll apply another coat tomorrow to even the whole thing out. Otherwise, it doesn't look half bad, and at least my towels won't be spending the majority of their time either on the floor or hanging off the shower curtain rod.

I kicked out the Paternal Unit at around 4:00pm to do my own cleaning, and then joined him for dinner again at 7:00pm. Have just got back now and intend to continue my cleaning spree, especially as [livejournal.com profile] firewillow has been a productive and industrious woobie and sent out a vast number of Aparecium emails, which I was supposed to do today but didn't do because I was running around being HomeRepair!Phnee.

Further up and further in!

Heh. Mine were in random heap in various random spots in my apartment too until yesterday.

Thing is, it was really bugging me. I come from a household in which books are a way of life. No, seriously, my parents own 12, 000 books at last count. My father's a bibliophile and collects antique books and first editions and stuff.

So disorganised books actually drive my family nuts.

If it makes you feel better, I don't have a particular method of classification. I mostly go by size and by genre, and books by the same author go together. There's no alphabetisation or any crap like that going on. :)

Hrm.

You appear to have deleted your comment. Oh well.

There was nothing wrong with it that I could see...

Oh bugger - did I? I deleted half of it because I wanted to add to it rather than post a second time. Something must have happened to interrupt my second posting. And then I got all involved in Spring cleaning. Anyway, good to hear that you're not as organised as I thought you were. (You should see our loft - it's full of books we can't bear to throw away. I keep whispering *fire hazard* but MWNN takes no notice.)

*lol*

Fire hazard could well describe my parents' place.

Oh, and I'm *completely* disorganised. Occasionally I go on organisation binges, but for the most part things get "classified" wherever the hell I put them down. ;)

I'm reassured about the deleted post thing I was all confused and wondering if I'd missed something. ;)

Did you catch the second part of my 'deleted' post where I spoke about my original Beatles albums? I'll repeat it again for you. I'd spotted that you were a Beatles' fan. So was I, in my youth, a fully paid-up member of the fan club. I got to see them live in their early days (1963-4)When I first moved to London and started teaching, I had a moment of complete madness and gave them all to be sold at the school's Summer Fete. *cringe*. I kept only the two fan-club Christmas specials that I play occasionally. (They are very Monty Pythonesque - I love the story of "Podgy the Bear and Jasper"; *matches, candles, matches, candles, . . " (Ask your parents - Lennon was renowned for his off-the-wall humour.) I do have one original album Rubber Soul. It survived the great charitable impulse because it was still languishing in my old room at my parents' place up in Manchester. (It still bears the claw marks from when my dog, Whiskey skidded across it on his way out into the garden to chase the neighbour's cat.)So, here I am, 30 years later, reduced to buying compilations to regain all those old Beatles classics.

No, I missed that part of your comment.

Sadly I am too young to have been around to collect Beatles memorabilia when it was affordable, and too broke to buy it now (even if I wasn't broke). Then again, that might be a good thing as I am an almost incurable pack rat.

My parents have a few original (American) albums, including Rubber Soul which is one of my favourites. They also have a few John Lennon books which I have read from cover to cover a few times.
