This is one of my favourite musicals. When I have tons and tons of money I will buy the original London cast CD to replace my tape which died after three years of being played seven hours a day. ;)

Webber. You feature cool special effects, such
as falling chandelier murky bogs underneath a
theater. Your music is mind-blowing, your set
is gorgeous, and your lead man was played by
Michael Crawford in London. Need I say more?

Phantom is one of my favorite musicals as well. For my Graduation present my mom got us tickets for the Toronto show. It was very good. and i still think Colm wilkinson (canadian) made a fantastic Phantom.

I'm pretty sure that was the biggest musical of "our" generation insofar as that almost everyone I know has seen it and liked it. This was my favourite one... in fact, near the end of my piano-playing days, I picked up the sheet music for it. I never got very far into the book (the pieces were extraordinarily demanding with complete changes in tempo and scales as well as difficult hand maneuvers), but to this day, the only piece which I remember how to play by memory is "Think of Me".
