Yahoo once again stomps on privacy
Jan. 14th, 2003 11:18 pmCopied from the delicious
firewillow's LiveJournal, with thanks.
Each time it's they try something new... and yet the same old thing over and over again.
Bleah.
Yahoo is now using something called "Web Beacons" to track Yahoo Group users around the net and see what you're doing - similar to cookies. Take a look at their updated privacy statement.
About half-way down the page, in the section "Outside the Yahoo! Network", you'll see a little "click here" link that will let you opt-out of their new method of snooping. You may want to do this. Once you have clicked that link, you are opted out.
Notice the "Success" message at the top of the next page. Be careful, because on that page there is a "Cancel Opt-out" button that, if clicked, will *undo* the opt-out.

Also note that you have to go through this for each browser you use, if you're running more than just one, as it's browser specific.
:p

Date: 2003-01-20 11:07 am (UTC)I would've sent you an email, however your addy isn't located in your bio, so I'll just make a comment.
I wish to apologize for the comment I made in the sphogwarts_occ journal. I did not mean in any way to tell you what you can and cannot do, I simply wanted to let you know that there were other options availible if you so choose (I thought you might've wanted to be Lupin, but were taking Charlie as a second choice because Lupin's already taken)
Once again, I truly am sorry that I aided in turning you away from the RPG. It's a little chaotic there right now since we're just starting out and there aren't really any ground rules. If you came back, I'm sure we'd enjoy having you :)
