I need a favour, folks!

I want to do two things for my LJ:

1- I want to put a banner-type thing at the top of my main page with text in it. How do I do that? Just a box with text in it and maybe writing in a different font.

2- If I want to create a customised mood theme, do I have to use only the words provided by LJ, or can I make up my own words? One of the reasons I don't use mood icons is because they don't have enough words in the current mood section to suit me. ^_-

Help?

1 - It depends on whether you want to create an image in Photoshop (or some other art program) to make it pretty and use any custom font you like (which would therefore not need to be present on the computer of people viewing your page) or whether you just want to set the text and draw a box around it. Either way, you may want to have a look at the [livejournal.com profile] howto community for some tips. If you like, I'd be willing to help out more substantially, as well, since I've customized my own journal quite a bit.

2 - You can only use the words provided by LJ, unfortunately.

Drop me a line of email if you want coding help (since I don't know how much experience you have with html), and I'd be glad to try.

What Kimberly has said basically.

Putting a banner at the top is pretty much what I have done with mine. This entry (http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=howto&itemid=14978) in [livejournal.com profile] howto tells you how move your journal entries down to allow for banner.

The mood thing is a pain but apparently we are limited. I guess that is why there is the box for other.

I had hoped that you could choose the icon, and then type another word in the "Other" field to replace the existing one (so it would show that icon, but a new word). Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work that way.
