wow. just wow. so how come i didn't know you could still get the plague? and this: "Bubonic plague does not spread from person to person" makes me laugh. what if you get bitten by someone who has the plague? that'd be person to person, wouldn't it?

Nope. Bubonic plague is still often found in India and China (just to name two places where there have been major outbreaks within the past few decades.) In North America, it's usually carried by squirrels, not rats, and there have been cases in California and the US south-west from time to time over the last few years.
And I believe it's true that bubonic plague doesn't spread from person to person. The disease is carried by an animal (rats, traditionally, but squirrels as well, like I said). A flea has to bite that animal, then a human for the disease to be transmitted. It's only the pneumonic form of the plague which spreads directly from person to person, as it causes sneezing and coughing.
