It might be bunnies
Oct. 31st, 2005 10:46 amOn a random note, I am in love with the new Telus commercial. I haven't laughed that hard since they first launched the campaign with the parrot bopping to Barry White on a wire.
This time it features rabbits, and breaks down into the following shots:
1- Stack of orange-coloured poker chips, that look a little odd. On closer inspection, they turn out to be bits of carrot.
2- The music starts: "You've got to know when to hold 'em..." Shot of a rabbit sitting in front of the stack of carrot chips,
3- "...Know when to fold 'em...": Shot of another rabbit with floppy ears with a really small stack of carrot chips.
4- "...Know when to walk away...": Shot of third rabbit backing away slowly from a small stack of chips.
5- "...Know when to run...": Shot of rabbit hopping away quickly from a very small stack of chips.
6- "...You never count your money when you're sitting at the table...": Shot of rabbit with several large stacks of carrots, nibbling on one of the chips.
7- "...There'll be time enough for counting when the dealing's done.": Shot of group of rabbits playing poker, then text of whatever new promotion they have, which I didn’t read because I was laughing too hard at the rabbit counting his money at the table.
I loved that song when I was younger. I learned it at camp, and we used to sing it at the top of our lungs around the campfire. Listening to it in context with rabbits and carrots just made my night.
Yes, I’m easily entertained.

Gah! (NaNoWriMo)
Oct. 31st, 2005 08:16 pmYes, I have kidded myself for a while now that I won't stress out about NaNoWriMo. However, the fact that I wanted to have an hour's nap before the official start of NaNo, combined with the obvious fact that I am too psyched to sleep even though I'm really tired, pretty much puts the lie to any claims of zenification on my part.
Okay, so I was never really calm about this, I'll admit. However, I refuse to make an Issue out of it. I will do my best, and hopefully that will be enough. If not, well, I'll chalk it up to experience (again) and move on.
I am very, very tired. I want to just write my opening scene (hopefully 1,666 words' worth of opening scene, anyway) and go to bed. The rest of the wordcount will come tomorrow.
Right. So, I have music, I have my computer, and the NaNo forums are actually up and running. I'm debating moving the computer into the bedroom, thus avoiding the distraction of the internet during writing. However, the forums are also a source of motivation, so I haven't made up my mind yet.
I am contemplating tea, but I think I may skip that tonight, as I eventually want to get some sleep. :P
I did a bunch of writing for Bluebook with
joane this evening, so my writing muscles are all nice and warmed up. Hopefully the scene that has been trying to unfold in my mind will work more or less the way I want it to. I have the beginning and a few possible "ends" to the scene, but the middle is nebulous at best. I guess I'll find out in forty minutes. Thirty-five, if my computer clock is to be believed (which it isn't: it's five minutes fast).
:::ETA:::
Okay, I'm going to brush my teeth a second time. Maybe the mundanity of that will calm me down. I haven't been this wired since... okay, since the gig, so it hasn't been that long. Still! Ack!
