"I am Spartacus!"

Yes, watched Spartacus tonight. Last night. Was long. Doesn't really stand up to the test of time, except for Sir Peter Ustinov and Sir Laurence Olivier (although neither of them was knighted at the time). Even the latter wasn't as thrilling as I've seen him in other flicks.

Peter Ustinov was hilarious.

Kirk Douglas? Possibly the ugliest film star I've ever had the misfortune to clap eyes on. Sorry for all you Kirk Douglas fans out there. Besides, the man had only one facial expression throughout the film, which made him look as though someone had clubbed him upside the head while he was in mid-scowl. Most unfortunate.

I now have the weirdest urge to write Antoninus/Spartacus slash. Tony Curtis definitely had a Demetrios thing going for him in that movie, for those on my friends list who've heard me rave about FVLMINATA before. For those of you who haven't, or who don't care, let me just say that he's very pretty, and has very good chemistry with Kirk Douglas, at least in character. :D



Also found the answer to something which has been bugging me for a bit. Was trying to find the name of the spectacularly beautiful Chinese actress who played in The Emperor and the Assassin, and whom I first saw in Farewell My Concubine (now there's a depressing movie :P), and have just now found it on IMdB: Gong Li.

( And when I say 'spectacular,' I do mean 'spectacular' )

Okay. Bed now. Must buy cat food in morning. Kitties are giving me reproachful looks already.
