There's something deeply satisfying about coming home and realising that your cats are all happy.

George, Pan-Pan and Gretzky were by the door to greet me, as they always are, and even Smudge wasn't too far away, which was a shock.

Now George is lying in his new favourite spot, which is in the middle of the hallway floor, with his front paws tucked demurely beneath him and his tail curled tightly along his body, his eyes half-closed in contemplation. Pan-Pan is installed comfortably on the windowsill in a pool of sunlight, and Gretzky is giving her leg a once-over, sitting beside me on the table as I type this entry.

Smudge has disappeared back into my bedroom and is either under the bed again, or on the windowsill in there, where he watches the birds in the lane behind my building.

He's really becoming a different cat here. He comes out regularly now, and is slowly but surely asserting himself with the other cats without hissing or arching his back. He comes when I call him (well, if he's within five feet of me he'll come), and he lets me pet him for several minutes at a time now. He even let me brush him on Friday, and I cut away some of the worst clumps of fur that couldn't be brushed out. Underneath all the dead fur and the mats he's actually a very pretty cat, and he seems to be feeling better about himself now that I've prettied him up and fussed over him and told him how gorgeous he is.

So, yeah: I love my cats, they love me back, and I'm just so very very happy that they're happy.

That's something that no one gets who hasn't had a pet that they really and truly cared about. There's really nothing like sitting down and talking to your cat and having your cat lick your nose and rub its head against your chin and purr, because it's happy just to be with you.

Okay, I'll stop now. :)

Just got a notice in the mail for an allegedly unpaid parking ticket from something like January. Bugger. At least it seems to be the only one. I could've sworn I'd paid them all on time, but then I got so many in January and February when the signs on my street changed that I might well have missed one. I swear, some random white-collar worker out there is keeping his job because of me. X(

*sigh*

Am paying that off right. fucking. now. so I don't have to worry about it later.

Paying off my apartment insurance today too.

I ask you: why is my car insurance five times more expensive than my home insurance? My home insurance is about $170, and my car insurance is over $1000. So expensive, in fact, that I have to spread the payments equally over twelve months, otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford it. :P

I must call Hydro Quebec (the electric company) to equalise my heating bills too, since my Idiot!Landlord threw me a curve (see my post from about two weeks ago on the subject) with how much the bloody thing costs. Then again, at least now I'll be getting the bills here (rather than the Idiot!Landlord getting them and not informing me that he wasn't paying the goddamn bills).

*eyes light up*

Ooh! There's a form here that I can fill out without going through Customer Service! Yay! *fills out form*

Okay... so I'm going to get that withdrawn automatically too (that feature SO keeps me sane instead of keeping track of all the stupid bills that come in every month). I wish I could do that with my rent, but no way am I letting the Idiot!Landlord anywhere near my bank account even if I could... ^^;

The man's an ass. I might even go so far as to say he's an asshat, but I don't think he's intelligent enough to qualify. :P

After that, if I continue to sort of make money and pay off my credit card a little bit at a time, I may in fact see the light at the end of the tunnel for my financial troubles. That would be nice.

All righty. So now I'm off to:

A) Mail four (4) letters. Three bills and one personal.

B) Stop by Chapters to see if they have a book I'm looking for.

C) The Nautilus Plus club on Mount Royal, to do a work-out.

This seems feasible to me.
