Friday Five
Mar. 14th, 2003 02:50 pm1. Do you like talking on the phone? Why or why not?
I hate the phone. I'm on the phone roughly 38.5 hours a week, 37.5 of which are for my job.
Did I mention I hate phones?
I've always loathed calling people, and I rarely answer my own phone. Until I was fifteen years old, I was too shy to even contemplate picking up the phone to call someone -anyone- whether it was a stranger or a friend or a member of my family.
2. Who is the last person you talked to on the phone?
A client called Julien Ricciardi.
3. About how many telephones do you have at home?
One, and my cell phone for when I'm not home and people need to contact me for an emergency or something.
4. Have you encountered anyone who has really bad phone manners? What happened?
Every day. I get yelled at, cursed at, patronised and otherwise abused on a daily basis by my clients. I have to be polite with them, though.
Then there are the people who don't know how to use a cell phone in public: they talk too loud, they talk in restaurants, leave their phone on in theatres, etc. I usually yell at those people, and my friends pretend they don't know me.
This, of course, is not counting telemarketers, annoying people who just call to breathe at me, and the people who get wrong numbers and are impolite.
Have I mentioned how much I hate the phone?
5. Would you rather pick up the phone and call someone or write them an e-mail or a letter? Why or why not?
Email! Writing is great. Emoticons make it even better. Letters are good too.
