Saturday afternoon updatage
Jan. 25th, 2003 12:29 pmYesterday went pretty damned swimmingly, all things considered. Had lunch with
firewillow who was little more than a zombie, poor thing. I'm always amazed at how she manages to remain upright in spite of everything. She re-introduced me to bubble tea at the local Tea Stop, where I had an Iced Milk Papaya Bubble tea, which really was extremely good.
I left her shortly thereafter, and wandered (as usual) over to Le Mélange Magique, because I just can't help myself when I'm around there. Now that I actually know a lot of the people there, I really like hanging out in that store. I've even sort of become used to the smell of incense, even if it gives me migraines (not all incense: I like pine-scented incense and any fragrance that isn't too "heavy" if that makes any sense).
I met up with 'Mu there, and met another Mélange regular named Catherine, who was a total sweetie. She asked me to come by after I'd finished my banking stuff, and I promised I would then ran off to meet
blackbuffet at the Gamers' Guild. I spent a frustrating hour and a bit there, first off waiting for him and the Guild President to finish their game of "Munchkin" (which is a card game, if you were curious), and then waiting at the bank while the extremely inefficient teller tried to give them signing authority over the bank account. As it turned out, my presence was entirely superfluous, but I guess if I hadn't been there they would have needed me, the way these things go.
So, nearly an hour late, I rejoined 'Mu at Mélange, and we sped off to St. Denis street where she introduced me to the wonder that is Lush. I'm not really big on cosmetics and bath stuff (I don't have the patience for it), but this stuff was truly remarkable. First off, it was very hard to believe that it was soap and not food (especially the stuff that looked like cheese and the stuff that looked like chocolate). I bought myself a lavender bath bomb which I intend to use either tonight or tomorrow night to see if it'll help me sleep better. Am enthused.
After some deliberation, I managed to coax her out to dinner. We decided on a restaurant called "Primo Piatto" which is a delightful, if expensive, Italian place near her home. Of course, we neglected to remember when we went that it was not even five o'clock, so naturally the place was closed.
We repaired to her apartment to wait for the restaurant to open, and played Scrabble, during which she absolutely wiped the floor with me. I suck at Scrabble, and play maybe once a year, but it was fun. RC was there, and in an absolutely pissy mood. I'd forgotten how disagreeable he can be when he puts his mind to it, and it took all of my willpower not to beat his head in with a side table. I honestly don't know why she stays with him, especially with all the manipulative crap he pulls. *grr*
He got even pissier when we changed our m9inds and decided to go to Kam Shing, because it wasn't as expensive. He'd wanted us to bring him back some bruschetta, and we had foiled his plans. Whatever.
We called up
firewillow to see if she wanted to come, and left her a message, which she sadly got far too late. I guess next time we'll coordinate better.
As it turned out, once we had left the apartment and were on our way to Kam Shing, we had a lot of difficulty finding parking, and so 'Mu saw this as a sign and decided we should go to Bâton Rouge instead. *giggle* So that's what we did. 'Mu called her annoying fiancé to tell him of our change of plans, which got him even pissier, but luckily there wasn't much he could do about it. Once 'Mu had vented a little bit about how pissy he was, we were able to get a really nice quiet booth and ordered dinner.
First off, let me say that they make *really* good babyback ribs. Dinner was most excellent, although certainly not a three-star French restaurant (but you don't get those in Canada, obviouslY). We chatted up a major storm, covering everything from parents to children's books and God knows what else. We didn't even notice the time go by until we looked around and noted that the restaurant was almost deserted.
It was midnight.
So I drove 'Mu back home amidst mock-complaints that she had wanted to read her book so she could finish it and start another one ("and I'm a slow reader!"), although I felt vaguely guilty because she did have to be up at 9:30 to go somewhere.
Still, I think we both had a good enough time that there were no true hard feelings.
