Bookworm is more than just your average Corporate Drone. She is well on her way to dominating the universe thanks to her timely use of the Dark Side of the Force.
Strengths: can translate any French or English text in record time, loyal to a fault, diplomatic, friendly, generally approachable
Weaknesses: easily distracted, erratic, poor impulse control, prone to refusing to use pronouns, articles and prepositions during fits of pique
Special Skills: Glare o' Death(TM), can call on Great Cthulhu to assist in a pinch
Weapons: ready wit, paintball marker, thumbtacks and erasers (and other readily available office supplies)
Motto: Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Wow... to think I used to update this journal several times a day. Goes to show what having a life outside the home will do to a gal.

Lessee, where did I leave off?

Oh, yeah. I was in the middle of one of those major panicky episodes in which nothing seems like it'll ever get better and I'll be engulfed in all my problems forever.

Luckily got over that feeling relatively quickly (thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] firewillow for that), and went to play D&D.

Thoroughly thwarted RC, which was nice. Cast "hold person" on his chief villain, who then rolled a "1" on his saving throw. It was beautiful, and very satifying. The son of Iuz is now our hostage. Heh. *smug look*

Friday passed in an agonising blur. Work was crazy, had massive headache by the end, went to crash at Hurley's with [livejournal.com profile] fearsclave, [livejournal.com profile] rotagar, [livejournal.com profile] firewillow, [livejournal.com profile] cymry and Belfana, was joined later by Poms and [livejournal.com profile] sorceror as well as [livejournal.com profile] joane and Rich (who has a LJ but I don't know his username).

Crashed and burned instead. Mostly it was the result of 2 Guinnesses, 3 black & tans, 1 black velvet and 2 irish coffees.

Lesson learned:

Mixing many drinks in a short amount of time= B-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-D! ! ! ! ! !

Was prodigiously sick.

Was practically carried home by Poms, Joane and Rich. Am ubergrateful for kind attention, and especially Joane who was so nice to me while I was being sick. (And wouldn't you know it? All the stalls in the bathroom were occupied the *one* time I was sick, whereas they were empty all evening)

Had breakfast with NA, daughter of godfather and good friend. Told her all about BUS and what I've been up to, and she updated me on her life too. She's going to be working at the Children's Hospital as a therapist (art therapy), and is very excited about it. It's nice to finally see her knowing what she wants to do with her life. :)

Barbecue was much fun. Met some of Joane's friends and partied (no booze) with people from Gamers' Guild. Notable absences: [livejournal.com profile] curtana, [livejournal.com profile] forthright and [livejournal.com profile] blackbuffet for altogether justifiable reasons, but next year I hope they make it. It just wasn't the same without them.

Went home with Joane and Rich, watched O Brother: Where Art Thou? Ate sushi, played Grave Robbers From Outer Space, watched wonderfully regrettable Anime. :)

Now that I'm getting to know Joane better, I like her more and more. I liked her before, thought she was nice, but I'm discovering she's a truly wonderful human being to be around, and I consider myself very lucky to be able to count her among my friends.

I really need to introduce her to Fire. They'd get along, well, like a house on fire. ;)

Went to church today, and was struck again by how right it felt.

It still isn't second nature for me yet to turn to God when I need to, and yet everything becomes so much easier when I do.

I went to confession for the first time in nine years. I was absolved of my sins, and I went home and sobbed with relief. It felt as though my heart would burst it was so full. I can't even write this without tearing up.

I don't know. It all seems so hard sometimes, and then at times like this I feel as though I could shoulder the Earth with ease.

Someone told me this parable not too long ago, although I don't remember who it was:

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes, from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the paths of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you the most you would leave me."
The Lord replied, "My son, My Precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints it was then that I carried you."
