Well, not really. But it's hard to keep updating this LJ with no computer at home. See, I got last Friday off, which meant no updates for three days.

Then I have tomorrow off too, which also means no updates unless I borrow a computer off someone, and I don't really want to. It would be weird and somehow kind of pathetic to do that just to update my LJ.

If I had a life and death situation like a paper or an article to write, *then* I might do it, but otherwise it just seems kind of sad.

Had a good weekend, overall. The guy meant to fix my doors didn't call, so I got Friday off for nothing. Spent day with [livejournal.com profile] firewillow, although it was pretty frustrating for both of us, as the delivery she was waiting for was over three hours late.

Then she had to go into work without having had lunch.

I bummed around downtown for a while, bought some refills for my pens, forgot my fountain pen again so I still don't have new cartridges for it. Blast.

Still, dinner at Reubens was fun, and I got the Lilo & Stitch soundtracks as well as the new Uncle Kracker CD. Most of the songs turned out to be so-so, but there's at least one I like, so it's not a total loss.

Saturday I went shopping with the Parental Units, who were in surprisingly good spirits. My father bought me a table and a toaster and one of those salad-drying thingies. I also bought scads of boring but useful stuff for the apartment.

Made dinner for Poms, although I'm pretty sure he didn't like it and was too polite to say so. My moussaka was lacklustre, I'll admit, but it's also an acquired taste. I don't know. He seemed out of sorts until we got to the movie, but it might not have been directly my fault, so I'll wait until he actually tells me whether I did anything wrong. (Hint, hint)

MBFGW was side-splittingly funny, mostly because I recognised a good portion of my former schoolmates in the movie (figuratively), as well as their relatives. There were definitely some class considerations to be taken into account in the movie: not all Greek families are as vulgar and extravagant as that, but they are disturbingly like that anyway. ;)

Sunday. Well, two things mostly. The birth of the Virgin Mary (according to the Catholic Church anyway) and my father's birthday. Not necessarily related, of course.

Spent a long time at Church kneeling on uncomfortable wood thingy. Was still a nice service, although I wasn't too impressed with our priest's willingness to bless everything from schoolbags to protractors. It just seemed overkill and unnecessary. I mean, how is having a blessed ruler going to make you good in geometry?

Meh. I was just reminded far too strongly of theHoly Hand Grenade for my own good. I expect sarcasm and cynicism are not good when one is trying to strengthen one's faith. Then again, a healthy dose of critical judgement never hurt anyone.

I got this terrible desire yesterday to run out and take lessons in Ancient Greek and Hebrew. I keep getting the impression I'm missing out on something when I'm reading the Authorised versions of the Bible. Then again, it would take me years to get to the level where I could actually read the Bible in the original text.

Maybe [livejournal.com profile] joane could help point me in the right direction.

I've found incidentally that a good night's sleep does wonders for improving my mood at work. Last week was a total nightmare workwise. I was distracted and irritable and worried about my destroyed doors, and I don't think I was pleasant company for anyone.

Funny how, while I don't like the beginning of the week, I'm usually in a better mood on Mondays and Tuesdays and weekends. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I tend to be cranky and snappish, and I've even found that those days are harder on me psychologically. Funny that. Must ponder it some more.
