In the meantime, I am struggling with this stupid baby blanket. Again. After getting through four repeats with no trouble, this fifth repeat is threatening to claim my sanity. I've had to rip back about six times this week, and I've just found yet another mistake. Gnarr.

*glares at knitting*

I suspect this will be ten times worse when I try to knit that shawl next.

I found a square (and only one in the whole row) where I zigged where I should have zagged (or did I zag when I should have zigged? Not sure.) Noticed it about 8 rows too late to do anything about it. I am not picking it back. No one will notice, and if they do, I find I am not capable of caring. So there. SO THERE, I SAY!

You have achieved an important... achievement-thingy in the zen of -- oh, to heck with it. Good on you. We should all hit this in every area of of our lives.

Hitting what, exactly? I ask myself if it's laziness, or apathy, or simply a zen letting-go and acceptance of my flaws.

A point where you can evaluate an error and judge it acceptable within the overall scope of whatever you're doing instead of obsessing about it, I think. Because we all fret about the little things, and castigate ourselves because We Could Have Done Better, and worry that it somehow ruins the rest of what's around it. So if you can step back and look at the overall product and say, "I accept that error and not let it diminish the rest," then I think you've conquered something. Not a lot of us can do that with any amount of ease. Seeing all the good instead of the mistake is a talent more of us should have. We do tend to focus on the mistake instead of the rest of the well-done stuff.

So, um, maybe mostly the latter, the letting-go and acceptance. It's also a reasonable evaluation of the time put into the project and the time required to go back and fix that small error. More time for you to relax or handle the other stuff is a good thing, yes?

Now, leaving a huge error because you honestly don't care would be laziness or apathy...

(Geez, I can't think of a way to say this stuff without sounding preachy. Gah. I'm envious, and I do honestly think more of us would be happier people if we didn't obsess over the mistakes that are tiny in comparison to the good stuff we do.)
