I am not even one repeat into the pattern and there's already a mistake. Just... kill me now.

:::ETA:::

Thank God for stitch markers. I've found the mistake, and while I do have to rip back two rows, at LEAST the mistake isn't in the lace part of the pattern.

GAH.

Remind me why I do this?

:::Further ETA:::

Turns out I've been purling "wrong" this whole time. Who knew? Gah.

I am currently making an iPod cozy on tiny DPNs and I CANNOT make a mistake, because the patterns in IMPOSSIBLE to rip back and pick up.

So I have to restart the whole thing as soon as there's a mistake. Damn thing!

I sympathize!

I sympathize too! I'm currently having a fabric disaster with some gingham that I bought thinking it was 100% cotton, but turned out not to be. Now it refuses to play nicely with the other fabric (which *is* 100% cotton)...

Why Knit Lace?

I've made it fifty years with nothin' but garter stitch.

Love the cartoon.

'Cause it's pretty, that's why. :)

Also, I am a glutton for punishment and enjoy challenges, when I'm not beating my head against the proverbial wall.

It's like a Zen excercise: chop wood, knit lace.

Wrapping the yarn the wrong way on the purls, would be my guess? (This is what happened to me...)

Yep. Deosil instead of widdershins. ;)

I did it too. Which is why I had such a bitch of a time doing... whatever it was I was trying to do, because my tension is, erm, tense, and doing the wrap the other way made it even more tense.

Tip: If you find that you've twisted a stitch (for example, by wrapping your yarn the wrong way on a purl) you can fix it on the next row by knitting that stitch into the back loop instead of knitting into the front.

Knitting into the BACK of the loop? That's even scarier than purling. :P

I find it easier than purling, actually. You're just inserting your needle in a different spot, wrapping as usual, bringing the yarn through...
